Flexed my stock XJ

Built a ramp with railroad ties and drove up it with my stock xj. Front wheel got 17 inches off the ground for an RTI score of 490 (http://www.4lo.com/calc/rticalc.htm)

Decided I'd disconnect the rear swaybar to see what difference it made, but a bolt broke in the process so I just pulled the whold thing. Drove up again and got 18 inches off (one inch woohoo!) for an RTI of 519 :yelclap: . 29 RTI points sure sounds better than 1 inch!

Seems like pretty good flex to me for a stock 4x4 with sagging springs. I'll have to disconnect the front and see what happens.

RTI points won't get you home from the trail...
is your point that removing the swaybar gave you an inch? cool...

Hey, judging by some of the emails I get some people will pay a lot to gain an inch!

Ok, it's not a huge improvement. It was too dark for my cell to take pictures, so I'll get the real camera and try again tonight

So I drove back up the ramp and took pics.

I'll disco the front soon and see what that does.

Mad flex yo!

That is a nice Jeep, I think the running boards need to go before you start wheeling it. Otherwise the rocks will make them go bye bye :D

Just throw the rear sway bar in the parts pile. I don't normally drive with the front connected unless I am going long distance and have the midgets with me. It takes a little getting used to on road but sure helps offroad.

I know I know. But the wifey likes them so I told her I wouldn't pull them off until I can replace them with sliders. I've just been carefull with them so far, and as they don't hang down lower than the "frame" rails they've been alright.

So if anyone wants a set of running boards let me know!

haha. Disconnecting the front will give you the most flex. ditch the rear sway bar if you still have one.

So I disconnected the front today. Broke one of the rusty links in the process, but I've welded a new bolt on the end to fix it. Haven't tested it yet though.

With the front disconnected it drove right up the old ramp so I had to make a taller one. Got to a height of 26 for a calculated RTI of 750! Now, this is on my unlevel gravel driveway so I don't know how it would rank on a real ramp. Since I moved the ramp I'll retest with the front connected when I get the jeep back from walmart (droped it off to get the tires ballanced (again) and an oil change) for a better comparison of the difference. But there's no doubt that it flexed better!

You've got a lot more balls than I do, based on looking at that "ramp" setup. I'm game for a whole lot (see attached pics), but that would freak me out.

Yeah, I do not recomend that type of ramp to anyone! I've been up and down it several times, but I was very careful with what is could easily be a bad setup. The timber is up against a tree to keep it from moving forward and colapsing the jack stands. The 2 stands w/ the 4x4 are what holds the timber up. I did it that way to spread the load and make it less likely to tip over sideways. The third stand probably isn't needed and is just for extra support on the way up.

I agree that it looks bad. One might even nominate that setup for tardwars'08. It'd be my second one this week :gee:.

I fixed my endlink and tried the ramp again. Only got the wheel 17 inches off the ground. So disconnecting the front sway got me from 17 to 26 inches , or 490 to 750 rti score!

Pulling the rear didn't do much, and if someone tows alot it'd be worth just leaving it in and unhooking the front when needed.

I flexed on a tree and found that at full compression and full turn the tire contacts the flair and the back of the wheel well. My tires are 235/75/r15.

Wow I've never even thought about flexing against a tree...cool pictures tho! Wish I could rig up a ramp to flex mine...

I'm going to agree with that ramp being a little scetchy.lol . and the tree thing ....wow never seen that before
