stock front shaft style CV in the rear
and the RE flange type in the rear
which do you have?

a stock front shaft from a XJ is good to have as well as other U joints.

Here is the shaft I have in my XJ. I was wondering if I could find one from another vehicle that would work.

you might be able to use a shaft from the front and then buy the right CV for it to use that adapter ?i dont think there is a JY shaft that will bolt right in? maybe do some searching on spare RE shafts or something?

I dont think there is a direct bolt in JY shaft. you need the spicer adapter flange thingy

i usaully have parts and tools a 2-1 ratio over camping gear/food. if i didnt bring so much spare parts, my rig would look empty instead of packed...

It's kind of funny you say that, "usually" on most of the trails I run, I just bring tools and straps. I'm working on shafts a driveline

I definately don't carry as many spares as Jon, but I am overboard on tools. Cordless makita 18v drill, 1/2" impact gun, portaband, sawzall, and angle grinder and 8 batteries. Sockets, wrenches, drill bits,taps, hilift, exhaust jack, welding rods, straps, chains and spare fluids. After grenading a th400 on slickrock, I realized I'd never have every possible spare. After swapping it out on the trail after finding one on craigslist and going to pick it up, I decieded the tools to fix anything are sufficient as long as you don't wheel alone. On the long remote trails, drivelines and axleshafts would be a good idea.

damn a whole tranny swap on the trail? thats some dedication and hardcore trail repair right there.... I would have just gotten somebody to tow me out and done it at home.

It was a wagoneer on 42's, wheeling with a couple wranglers with open diffs on 33's. Them towing me up from the creeks would have probably lead to more broken parts all around. Plus it was the first day of a five day wheeling trip, got it fixed on the second day and wheeled the next 3. Being in construction, and running jobs, time of is hard to come by and very expensive, so I do what it takes to keep wheeling until I have to be back to work.

waggy on 44s and you break a tranny? what axles were you running?i guess it was time for an auto on 42s.

Waggy was on dana 60's. Bought the 77 waggy used, probably original tranny and fluid when I bought it. Wheeled it 2 years, breaking lots of poorly maintained parts before I gave up on it and bought my Xj.
