ANother one that was thrown out there was Dusy Ershim for Memorial Day weekend.... but I just looked at the temps and realized where it's at and I suggest we look at an alternate date (mid July?) when it is warmer :)

Can we get this pinned to the top?

I thought the talk of Dusey/Ershim was for Labor Day weekend.

And before you ask, no they do not have a hilton at Ershim lake so you may need to arrange some other form of sleeping accommodations. If it rains will we have to cancel the run?

Just giving you crap, I think this is a perfect weekend to run it.

I talked to Dan a few days ago and when he ran it this year in the end of August (or rather between middle and end) dog's drinking water that was in a bowl outside froze SOLID. Anyways I'm game for it so lets settle on that date :D

I'm having trouble finding any decent locations as to what weather station is close by. From what I can tell the closest should be Mono Hot Springs, which shows the weather from last Aug as High of 73 and low of 48 and in Sept. as a high of 67 and low of 44. Far from dog bowl freezing, but maybe we are talking about two different locations.

Anyway you look at it, it should be a bad ass run, and I know we have to be careful as to not go too early due to the fact that some of the rivers / streams may be impassable due to the amount of water flow.

Not to even mention that I like the whole 3day weekend deal.

Its one hell of a trip.we took a week to do it which is nice as you can lay back at some of the lakes.Mid August was also good as wearther was great. You are at 9,500 to 10,000 feet elev. For you folks that don't know the Dusy my picture are up for you to check out.The link is under the Fuddruckers picture's.

Lion: Would you say the temps that I mentioned above would be accurate for the time period in Aug. that you went?

I think it would be good to take at least 4 days on the trail. I do not want to blow through it. I think it would be cool to maybe have half a day or so at a lake just to lounge and enjoy the nature. Maybe do some hikes for the people who enjoy that kinda stuff.

We should move this into a new thread so this does not get any more hijacked then it already is. I'll start one now.

Not many water crossings to worry about on the Dusy.. Just keep in mind that for the majority of the trial, you'll be at 9000 feet and above........cold. And the dog's dish had a little over 2 inches of solid ice in it. Just make sure you have a really warm sleeping bag and mosquito spray.

The scenery is beautiful and you'll want more than 3 days on the trail to fully appreciate it, not to mention a day there and back.

Mono Hot Springs is at the bottom of the canyon, and is about the lowest and warmest place in that whole area. I think it would be best to consider the temps on Dusy to be at least 10* cooler than Mono Hot springs, and probably more.

It's nice to run Dusy in four days, staying two nights at Ershim Lake, but not everyone can take that much time.

You're right I always mixed the two holidays up! It's the September one :D

(M)emorial Day happens in (M)ay! They both start with "M"!!

(I figured this out when I was about 30! So I'm not throwin' any stones....)

BTW, has SoCal given up on the annual Swamp Lake XJ run? It started as a SoCal run, but seems to have been picked up by the Sierra Chapter.

Swamp Lake is sort of a mini-Dusy. It makes a loop below Dusy, and has some similar terrain, and is less than half as long.

I hear what you're saying but I just wish I had more days off available !! If it's doable in 3 days I'm willing to give it a shot :D Plus I'm hoping that the Skinny Pedal Rabbit will be there to set the pace :D

I would love to go but you are brain fading on some info. It takes about 3/4 of a day to drive there and then that long to get back. We would have to leave Thursday night to get up there and start the trail by friday morning. Then get off the trail by Monday morning and drive home. Thats still pushin the limits. We havn't even taken into consideration breakdowns or catching fire on the way home yet. (Sorry mike had to throw that in there) If you guys are up for it I'm in!!!!! :bunny:
