Early April run?

Bummer. I'll be gone this weekend or I'ld help ya out.

Front tow points? Who needs em! We just pull you out by your axle. Seriously, front and rear tow points are a must have, especially for a snow run.

Go to PNP and snag some off a wrecker

Which PNP, I was to the 1 in Rancho & the 1 off of Stockton Blvd in Sac and things are pretty picked over. There was only 2 xj in sac & about 5-6 in Rancho mostly being pre 87'. I don't think I saw any tow hooks. I could pull you out with my winch, with a tow strap around your axles tube if need be, but tow hooks would be much better. A rear tow hitch & front tow hooks works good.

I'll have some front tow hooks available later this wwek. The brackets are kinda bent up a little bit, but they are in good shape otherwise.

OK so when and where is this run? I am thinking I can make this and the Hollister run. Just trying to figure out my plans.

Meet up at the gas pumps at Sam's Club or Costco in Citrus Heights, to fuel up on cheap(er) gas before we head out for the day? Choose which one to go to based on which more people are members to, so we don't have to pass around cards as much?

Meet between 8:00 and 8:30 or so? It'll be an early morning to head out from the bay area, but we should be able to get to the trail at a good time.

I suggest Sam's Club in Citrus Heights off of Greenback. I have a membership & can use my card there. Gas was $1.91/gallon for 87 octane last night, not cheap, but cheaper than I've seen in the area. 8-8:30 should be a good meet time because it takes about an hour to get to the trail(s). The snow is melting fast, so I hope there is still some when we go on the 27th. I see some in the hills from Citrus Heights.

There's one in Rocklin off Taylor and one in Rancho Cordova off Sunrise.

Have you been to the 1 in Rocklin? I didn't see much of anything at the Rancho(sunrise) or the Sacto (Stockton blvd) PNP. The Rancho 1 had about 5 xj, mostly pre 87's & the Sacto 1 2 that were pretty picked over. They had a few ford 8.8 from explorers for cheap. They were $166 when I went there. so they should be $80 or so this weekend? If so, you cannot beat that! They were mostly the drum brake version though pre-95', but still 31 spline.

So you guys want to meet up at Sam's Club on Greenback in Citrus Heights around 8-8:20 next saturday the 27th? I have a membership there so we can gas up before leaving for the trail. Who's still in Phil, Billy, Sean, who else?

As of today, at the top of Donner Simmit (7300 ft) there was 4 ft, 5 inches of snow at the snow stake. Last week we had over 8ft!! its been only been in the high 30's at night so its meling 24/7!! Perhaps this Friday we get some precipitation. :(

I won't be making this run. Unfortunately my tranny to a dump on me this weekend. This will be the third MOPAR reman AW4 installed in the last year. POS. Hopefully the new one will work out ok. I am installing it later this week and I don't want to push it too bad. I will be going to Hillister on Sunday, but I will be taking it easy.

I drove Hwy 20 from GV/NC to 80, then up to Boreal today and the snow, at least along the hwy, near the Bowman Rd/Sierra DIscovery Trail sign was kinda patchy. At Boreal I could even see some bare ground around some trees from the chairlift. As I remember though, a lot of Bowman is shaded? I've driven it during hte summer on my way to the bpacking trailhead and I kinda remember there being a fair amount of shade, enough to keep the snow from melting as much as in the sun. I drove Grouse Ridge Rd in January of 2001 and it hadn't snowed in weeks, but the coverage was still good enough to be fun (fun enough that I got my Explorer stuck most of the way up Grouse Ridge and had to leave it overnight :P). So I wouldn't worry too much, especially with the NWS predicting snow for Thursday night and Friday.

There are a couple of harder trails in the area, so we can do those if people need a little more challenge if the snow isn't that deep.
