Okay, I know there is a place called eagle meadows somewhere around Kennedy meadows. I cant seem to find it on my maps or google maps. Anyone know how to get there? I am taking my nieces camping and trying to avoid the press of people at pinecrest, which is my backup plan. Any other places cool to head to?

where is eagle meadows supposed to be anyway?

Its up past Strawberry on Hwy 108. Do a search for Niagara Rim trail. You will need to drive through Eagle Meadows to get to the trail. Niagara Rim has a great camp area off the trail that was completely empty last time I was there, and can be accessed by multiple fire roads rather than running the very easy trail itself.

Had to bust out my Charles wells guide book, but here are the directions from the book:

"Take Hwy 108 northeast from Sonora to Pinecrest. Stay on 108 another 14.4 miles. Turn right onto paved road at signs for Eagle Meadows and Niagara OHV campground. To find the Niagara Rim Trail: Reset your odometer at the turn off of 108. Stay right at 0.3 and 0.9 miles. OHV campground is on the left 2.8 miles. After the campground, stay right at 2.9 Start of trail is sharply left at 6.0 miles"

I have been to the area a few times, and I used these directions to find the trail. Also be sure to visit the Bennett Juniper. An estimated 3000 - 6000 year old Western Red Juniper tree. Pretty cool to check out.
More info on it can be found here: http://www.bssf.org/blogs/eric/hiking-nature/the-bennett-juniper/
