Does this tick you off ?

And if you search for XJ be sure to put in -jaguar.....

Best you can do with a lousy counter guy is Bit*h to management. Went into local Advance, guy wouldn't stop texting on his cell phone. I called him on it and he started in with "it's ok, family emergency....hold on....blah blah" I made sure everyone in the store could hear me tell the manager "you see I'm walking out empty handed, and you see why..." E-mailed corporate, they had the store manager call me and offer his apologies and send me a $20 gift card.

In a way I'd just like to walk out and let them figure out why they have no business, but if they go out of business, that is less competition in the parts market; and (I would hope) more competition means perhaps better pricing and service.

Hey my Jeep is locked into our shop computer by VIN. But every time I use Activent to look up parts, It ask's if it is a 2 wd or 4wd, does it have ABS, what size engine. It's the way the way the catalog system is set up.

I have a good one for you. I ordered the parts to do a zj steering conversion, and of course got the normal, your vehicle is not a zj, I know, it's what I want, thanks, order the stuff. I went back to pick it all up the next day, parts missing. The counter guy calls another store, they have the parts. Go there, already paid for the parts across town. They can't give me the parts on the other store's credit, they have to ship them there, I can pick 'em up tomorrow! I tell them I'll just pay cash, get cash, oh well they show to be in stock, but we don't have them. I go to another store and purchase the parts. After 4 hours, I head out of town. I call the original store and tell them to call me when the rest of the parts come in, get put on hold. Guy gets back on and , uh, can I apologize, the parts were on the shelf, with my name on the boxes, right next to the other parts I picked up! I turn around get to the store and get the sheepish, oops. They started doing the we'll make it up to you. I told them, we all make mistakes, but man this one got me. Seems they ordered the parts from the store they sent me to to pick them up at!!! The computer system really seems to tie hands of fairly competent people. The guy behind the counter said he promises me that he will not forget my jeep is an xj zj jeep type thing. The point is none of us is so terrific that we cannot make mistakes, and if we keep a good attitude, and try to be cool, we put a good face on the xj crowd. I for one try my best to be the cool guy in the jacked up Cherokee.

I tell people I drive a Cherokee, and they say "Hey! I have one too!" I used to get excited, but now I've just gotten used to the fact that the only people who know the difference are XJ owners. Several people have tried to tell me that they're the same thing, when i'm standing next to mine, which I've done all the work on...

So I broke a lug stud while removing a wheel on my 99 doing a brake job. I go to my local O'Reily's to get a new one, here's the story:

Me, with a non broken stud in hand for reference to the counter lady "I need a wheel stud for a 99 Jeep Cherokee, 4.0"

Her "Is it a Grand Cherokee or just a "plain" Cherokee?"

I looked at her and smiled and said "Just a plain 'ol Cherokee"

She goes and finds Dorman part# 610-109 which is about 1/2" inches too short and brings it back up and says "Here you go".

Me "This one is too short, look at it"

Her, fiddling on the computer look up again. She turns her head and looks at me and says "Are you sure you have just a plain Cherokee and not a Grand Cherokee?"

Me, smiling "Have a nice day lady"...........

I get so ticked when people ask me over and over again if it's just a plain ol Cherokee and not a Grand Cherokee! Especially twice in the same visit!
thats why i wont deal with the cheap auto parts places 95% of their employes have no idea what they are doing unless they have a computer in front of them i doubt many of them could change their own oil ,when i work at auto zone years ago i asked to get paper back books and they never would get them even at the jeep dealership i work at now we have the books to look up the parts along with the computers and you still have to check and recheck the pt numbers
