Do I have a good case for a lawsuit?

hey guys...Here is my story. I went to a tech highschool for autobody. I was suppose to leave with ASE certification and a few other things aswell. At the end of my SOPHMORE year, they canceled the autobody shop. The tore the shop down in hoeps of building a new one. I waited it out....and waited it out. Everyday we sat in a small cramped classroom at the end of the school, watching movies and building model cars...Apparently the schoool saw that as "good use of time" Half way through my junior year, still no shop. I decided to drop out and homeschool. I did just that. I graduated with my full diploma and im done. BUT, I wasted two and a half years in school and have NOTHING to show for it. If it wasnt for AutoBody I would have went o a better school to get into a better college. What do you guys thinik? Do I have a good enough case to take the school to court? :badpc:

Good luck with that

On what grounds? Was there a contract involved (that was signed by a legal adult - not a minor?) Was there income lost as a result of this decision of the school district?

Honestly, I'd say No - all that primary education is required to do is a basic academic education. Education in trades or vocation is extra, and therefore optional (witness the disappearance of "shop" courses out here for courses in "business ethics" or "economics." This is happening in middle and high schools out here!)

Don't bother taking it to court - they'll laugh you out and fine you for wasting the time.

Its not a private school where you have to pay $$, but its takes certain grades and abilities to get in.

Yet another post wherein the person who has started the thread has answered his / her own question.

Congrats.

That kind of thing happened to me in Tech College. The intro to Digital teacher took sick with cancer. Really it was no loss as the guy was hopelessly out of date and was teaching us 20yr old CNC efforts.
He was subbed with someone even older who didn't know a digital watch from a gopher hole. I learned alot from that guy... about RF.

Sometimes the lesson you learn isn't what you thought it would be.

It does sound like he went to a charter school though. And yes, his parents probably paid for the schooling. Lawsuit possibility? Hmmm. He could just as well have went to a technical college after HS and taken an associate degree program to get his ASE.

you could have transfered to another school with an auto class or done concurrant enrolement in a technical collage, school or community collage.

since you still sound like you want that like of work, look into apprenticship courses, community collages and technical collages in you area. im in a publicly funded (cheaper tuition) applied technical collage studying welding. yes, i could have taken welding in high school, but i wasnt sure thats what i wanted to do with my life so i joined the military. now that im in a post high school course, i believe it to be a better quality program- better facilites, better equipment, better instructors, more funding and less people that are goeing just for high school shop class cause they want to dick arround.

tuition varries by school, but most government trade schools have very reasonable fees (mines about $150-180 a month for full time). there are also tons of scholorships and grants available. look into those types of schools, deside on one or more and talk to their financial aid office for more info

wait until you get into the corporate world and get promised a raise and a promotion in 2yrs if you just "stick it out and work a few saturdays"...only to have your company issue budget cuts the freeze all promotions, but somehow don't apply to the boss's 10K annual performance bonus...

The world of handshakes and sticking to your word is long gone... If it aint signed, dated, and notarized, its worth just as much as the ink it took to write it.

Man you got that right. I've been jacked around all my life by corporate America. This year has been great I got two raises for a toatal of 17.5%. go fiquer last year was 3% for the whole year after busting my ass and spending 3500-7000 per month on travel expenses. I would fly home to Denver from salt lake and never leave the airport. Right back on a plan to Kansas city. It sucked and then 3%. This year I sit around half the week and I get two great raises. Don't let it eat you up, just do your time.
As far as the handshake goes that just plain sucks. Used to be a shake was as good as gold. I got burned on a deal 5 years ago from a good freind on a handshake and I'll never do a handshake deal again. We talked, we agreed, we decided how we would go forward we agreed and stood right on the property we were going to buy and split and shook hands. The next week it was like it never happened. The whole reason for our trip was to find some lots out west and buy some . We found a smokin deal on 10 acers but we would have had to buy it tgether and split it because of the cost. So even out of the corporate world these days you have to look out for #1.

It just amazes me - not only that a man's word is no good anymore, but that we have become so litigious as a society ("get rich quick" scheme? I'm not sure. It's sure to have driven up the price of just about everything, tho. People don't seem to realise that, when you sort it all out, you're paying for your own lawsuit and settlement. Eventually.)

I was raised on the simple fact that making a commitment to something could be taken as an article of faith. My wife knows it. My kids know it. My family knows it. My friends know it. If I tell you I'm going to be there, I'll show up (maybe not on time, but I'll get there.) If I look you in the eye and shake your hand afterward, I'll have a note on my wall when I get home so I won't forget. (Especially these days. I've been hit in the head so many times I start feeling like an Etch-A-Sketch that gets shaken while I'm asleep...)

I run business the same way - I stick to what I say, I do what I'm going to tell you to do (may not always be when I tell you it's going to get done, but it's going to get done,) and I keep you informed about what's going on, and how it affects you. I think it's only fair - I'm just treating people the way I want to be treated myself. I'm astonishingly tractable if you just let me know what's going on - even if you're telling me you don't know anything yourself, and need to find out so you can tell me. At least that way, I know you're making the effort.

Granted, I'm sort of an oddie anyhow - I get the twitching awfuls when I see "men" wearing their hats indoors. When did that become acceptable? I don't feel dressed without a hat, but I take it off when I go inside pretty much anywhere. Don't even get me started on kids wearing hats to sit down and eat...

This "sense of entitlement?" Samuel Clemens said it best when he said, "The world doesn't owe you a living. The world doesn't owe you a damn thing - it was here first."

No you don't have a case, but it's good to see the american public schooling come out in you. Let's sue everyone when we don't get what we want, or something doesn't go our way.

You should sue the government for having laws that keep you from suing your public school.

wow...So you went to school to get an expensive degree, and dont get it. Now you ahve to pay th emoney and redo all the schooling. Yes, im sure you woudlnt be mad at all. Go pound sand.

Expensive degree? Is this a public school we're talking about or not?

did you pay $$ to attend this school and pay $$ for autobody class ?

No...But I went into the school thinking I would be walking out 4 years later with my ASE cert. and ready to work in a bodyshop. I have none of that.

Nevermind...I guess you covered that.
