A friend fried the auto trans in his 97 Stroke. All it took was an exhaust and an open intake to send it over the edge.

Question: Whom have you had experience buying performance rebuilt trans units from? ATS, BD, Etc......?

Do you recommend an upgraded converter at the same time?

I told him to switch to a manual and be done with it, but he reisists!

Discuss.

Well, I can't speak from personal experience- yet. I'm saving the pennies to get a valve body from BTS so that I don't fry my tranny (now that it's been hot rodded). I've heard good and bad about ATS. In the long run I'll be getting an entire worked over tranny from BTS. It's $3500 installed and he personally tells you to try and break it as you pull out the parkin' lot. That's for a 4r100, I don't know what his tranny would be.

Had mine fully rebuilt with new 91% torque convertor and all the goodies from DTT.

Supposedly will handle up to 600 HP. They guys pullin sleds swear by this tranny.

It was the best thing I ever did for the truck. Puts the power to the ground and doesn't miss a beat.

My builder (Fred, Desert Diesel Parts) told me to "drive it hard...the harder the better". Of course, I do.

I also got a 3K gov spring kit, #5 fuel plate, AFE intake, Mag Hytec double deep pan, and the timing bumped to 16.5*.

Runs around 300 HP/550 ft lb torque.

All together I paid $4300.

Fred told me he could do the same thing to the tranny in the powerstroke.

I was hoping you two would chime in.

Rick, what kind of temps are you getting with the new trans? My friends was always up over 220-230 on any kind of hill. Must have been the slipping clutches.

I saw an internet ad for Desert Diesel, I'll pass it on to Sean.

Keep the suggestions coming.
