Die Tryin'? 10 XJ's Did it!

Well all I can say is what a great trip! I had so much fun even though there were many long days on the trail and road. I gotta say that Die Tryin' is one of the best trails I've ever driven, technical rock crawling at it's best. I was really worried about it when we walked it the day before but once on the trail it was pure enjoyment.
I ran Lower Terminator(Table Mesa AZ) with Rick Norman and Joe Daro yeterday and on the last obstacle I lost another MT/R and poped off a u-joint cap on the driver's side axle shaft, I guess those ears just stretched too much.
For the record those shafts lasted through Jackhammer, Outer Limits, Gate Keeper, Lower Big Johnson, Wreckingball, Sledgehammer, 21 RD., Die Tryin', Sidewinder, Alien/Aliens, and Lower Terminator before they were done for. Not bad 'eh? :D
I'm still in Prescott but once I get home I'll start uploading the pics I took, there are a lot of them.

You guys just had to post a pic of my fat arse welding your junk in the water didn't you. We were happy to help out. Did the welds hold to get you off the trail?

;-)

Thanks again. It wasn't MY junk mind you. I was just the only one willing to stay behind and make sure he got out alive! Yes, your welds held just great. My friend (against my advice) actually drove it back home after we got out. 70 miles of interstate! Some people aren't too smart! He's already found a new steering box and hoped to be back out on the trails soon.

This weekend a woman was seriously injured at 21 rd. Haven't found out all the details, but apparently she was taking pictures and a cherokee that was parked well above her location had the ground give way and it rolled on top of her. I *heard* it rolled 5 or 6 times before pinning her, but I can't think of many places on that trail where a vehicle could roll more that once. She broke a leg, and had serious head injuries. Took them 4 hours to get her out and then they flew her out by helicopter.

Scott Mac... no problem. I understand, you were waiting for the action shots. I almost posted a disclaimer *boring* with my links when I posted them!

Wow!! The only place I could see that happening would be on the road out the back side going up those switch backs. Glad to here you guys made it out alright. I wasn't all that confidant welding the cast pitman arm to the steel shaft. I wouldn't have driven it down the road at speed & I welded it.
