Deaver leaf pack travel and shock placement

On my old rig, I got about 13" of travel out of a set of Deavers. I believe PaulS did as well.

Can you run the shocks like the way an MJ runs its shocks on the chassis now that your fuel tank is not in the way? I got 12" short body 7100s on the MJ and I bet I could get 14" back there if I had to assuming I wanted more dropout.

Goatman, my rig is a DD, rock crawling trial rig that wants to go fast!
Deaver’s supplied me with a set of P28’s after I tried a set of G9’s. I lost an inch with the G9’s compared to the RE 5.5‘s I was replacing.
I gained 1.5 inches with the P28 over the RE’s and they are 11 leafs in the front haft and 9 in the rear, I had never seen a spring like it before.

I run a RE boomerang shackle with the HDE Relocation bracket. I have 11” Fox 2.0 reservoirs w/bearings, extended & spaced bump stops. I used the JKS bar pin adapters in the stock location on top and made up lower shock mounts that mount the shock about an inch below the axle.

This set up uses every inch of the 11” shock with 4.5-5 inches of up travel, flexes very well, soaks up the bumps, and the ride is superb.
The backend does fell like it wants to come over when going into a turn with the first couple of inches of sway but then it just hangs in, kind of hard to get use to.
I hope this help you, make sure to check to the P28’s

What's the difference between the P28's and the G9's? How do you tell the difference? Our spring pack is 9 leaves, with the one extra anti-wrap leaf on top of the main leaf in the front.

I have posted couple of picture in my album of the P28’s. The top spring in the pictures is a RE 5.5, the center is the Deaver P28’s and the bottom is a Deaver G9. You will notice that the center clips are further out that the G9. The P28 has 11 leafs in the front haft and 10 in the rear.

Alright, none of my business, but I will post in here anyways......

Us Bronco fools are running 12" shocks under the rear of the floorboard at a pretty extreme angle, and we are pulling 17" of travel. Yes you have to really valve the shocks for the extreme angle, but it works great. Want proof:

Jim would know, he was calling the shots in the co dawg seat that day. I will say that we kept being cautious looking for a big g out that uses to be there but is now gone.

A second or third pass could have easily increased speed another 10 mph.

let me know the next time you guys head out that way, i've been itching for a rip down outlet center drive for a couple of years but I never have time to just shoot out there by myself :eyes:
