SO i know this has been covered 100's of times before...but i want to ask if some of the local folks would post up pics of their Dana 30 steering solutions. front pics that show how you've fixed your issues. Thanks!

I'm going to try "flipping" above the knuckles... both sides...i'll get some pics here soon... but curious how others have been resolving this issue. And before i get the build heim joint yada yada...im just bandaiding this until i can got to a D44....

Mostly just so if i have questions OR want to see something first hand i have that oppertunity... Seeing what EVERYONE does is nice...but getting to see something firsthand is always better. I've also found the floks in this chapter to be awful friendly/helpful where as other places can be (jack)-ASSes .... also what works out here may or maynot work back east just for the various types of wheeling etc...

What are your time frame, budget, and goals for this steering band-aid? How high is your Jeep right now?

If you're going to have your D44 done by the spring, and you're done wheeling the 30, I'd say stay with stock steering for now.

If you're going to wheel part of rock season with the 30, you could try a stock style "upgrade" like the Currie. Don't worry, it'll bend.

If you're actually going to keep the 30 for a while, and you're going to be relocating the track bar bracket because you're raising the drag link, and you're at 6+", why not do highsteer? It's a little more work, but having a flat drag link is nice.

Phil

Well i will be running this setup for the summer...hopefully next winter i'll be able to build a d44 and get "real" highsteer and do it all the right way the first time. But to start off i'm at 8"+/- y-arms etc etc...so that sort of exceeds the stock steering. Right now i'm going to try flipping the draglink on top of the PS knuckle and DS to match, rotate the draglink TRE to fit and sleeve that portion of the draglink. if it fails i have a spare knuckle (draglink too) and can go back to stock. I haven't gone the route of currie, Rustys, or anyone elses for the simple reason of not wanting to spend the money twice, and just having to replace it all when i go to bigger axles. I do have a track bar drop, and an adjustable one at that....but i know it should still be raised a couple of inches as you pointed out....i haven't honestly addressed that part just yet.
As for the rest, its kind of why I asked to see other peoples solutions so that i may pick and choose what i liked from each and at least have some sort of refrences to refer to...

Thanks for the help....and ofcourse anything else you can offer up would be appreciated...

Phil's post is very close to my thoughts, I run the currie, it still bends, but I just put it on the the bottle jack and bend it back :wierd:

sd$350-$400 for a track bar and tie rod is alot!

I know people that keep a extra stock set, and swap it out once they taco it, bend it back and keep it for a spair.

and like Phil said I don't see putting in LOTS of time and $$ into it if you are going up to a 44, but the stock is junk, and don't ask Mark:

there is that trick of putting threaded rod down the center of it to add stranth, or sleving it, don't know how well that wroks.

Phil, post a pic of the Tera knuckle and associated steering so Mr.Bruns can see how that works. That's really the only solution for 8" of lift on a D-30.......

That's not the kit I got, but that's the same knuckle. ;). With the way my steering links are set up, I needed wheels with 3.5" BS or less. I ended up with 3.25" BS Eagle Alloys, as a long term solution, but I see no problem with wheel spacers if they're taken care of right.

16" wheels would have worked too, right?

15x8s with 12.5" wide tires need 3.5" BS or less.

I believe 15x10s with 12.5s could run 3.75" BS, but why would you run 12.5s on a 10" wheel?

16" wheels or larger may be able to get away with 3.75" BS, but I don't know. If anyone wants to check a wheel/tire combination with 5x4.5 lugs on a Tera knuckle, they're welcome to try on mine.

sweet! well i'm working a few options...but that is one that seems to be the best fix. ThankYou's to everyone... :kissyou:
