Damages.....

I gave up on the coils over 10 years ago and went to coilovers, when I buggied out the rig I went to Airshocks. When you have alot of flex and weight combined, coils will eventually lose, not much you can do about it really.

im going coilovers in the rear of our buggy..... the only reason is for packaging and performance, and i dont want to have to design the rear structure around coils and shocks. The front will stay coils for the time being because its cheap and all the bracketry is in place and free

My big problem right now is money... or lack there of. I sent an message to RE to see if they have any kinda warranty for that kinda damage. I'm sure they don't but hey it's worth asking. When I get the no answer then I'll start looking at what coils or coil overs to get. Kinda thinking about those Rusty's coils right now. I'm going to replace the front shocks too so I'll have another $125 in them if I get 5000's like what I have now. IF I could get a set of coil overs for $400 or less I'd bite the bullet and do it. I like the idea of coil overs just not the work I'm going to have to do. I have a lot invested in this body and have no planes for a buggy right now.

Coilovers are not cheap but they are well worth it, ORI struts are an option also, might be a better option since you do not need shocks with them and they do not unload like coilovers will, no need for suck down winch, coilovers will need the coilover body, slider kits and coils, starts adding up fast.

ORIs are pricey too aren't they?

Yea right now I think I just need to get another seet of coils and continue to have fun.

get those rustys coils..good price too

Found some 7.5 coils like I had from a vendor here. $130 shipped. Now to find a different shock. So far this is what I run:

RS 5012 18.98" compressed length and 32.53" extended. Total travel 13.55"

Might go to these:

RS5254 18.28" comp 30.82" ext Total Travel 12.54

I might have to go smaller. I'm going to remove the spacer up front and lower it a bit in the rear too I think.

It's relative. These are older numbers however you get the idea.

you forgot: Waiting for the ORI's: PRICELESS!

you make a good point, however i like compartmentalizing my costs. instead of buying the ORI's or a dynatrac axle as a large initial investment i break all the costs down into units and spread them out over multiple budget cycles. granted i could just build up the $$ in savings but it current income levels swiping the card for 1200 all at once hurts, and both the future wifey and i dont like the huge budget hit, plus im able to buy parts to further compartmentalize large projects into smaller ones. that way i build a comparable product with small purchases over time..... i know its weird but thats how i look at it.

however i may look into them for the back of the buggy, tyler has a lot of experience tuning them and is a good resource where ORI performance is concerned

actually certain dealers keep common lengths in stock like 12's, 14's, and 16's. that way the only special orders are weird ones like the really short ones or the 18's

Spreading costs out is fine, I do it all the time. I don't do it to spend more money though. However people generally have a finite amount of money. So you'd rather spend 2k in 12 months versus 1,200 in 12 months. OK it's your money. Granted each suspension type has it's advantages and disadvantages. I'm not getting into that.

coilovers go fast ;) my only problem is that they cant be tuned as well, plus i dont have to do an air bump and sway bar setup with them.... who knows at this point thats probably a cost that will be addressed next year... i think im going to go ahead and drop change on a set of rcv's and tires while i have it....... that way at least i can get the pig rolling around

Yea I just cannot do ORI or Coil overs right now. I'd love to but the money is not there. I have to replace the coil. That cost me $130 to my door and will be here tomorrow. The shocks is something I want to change so I can bring it down. I looked at Doetsch and found these:

8368 comp 16.75 ext 29.5
8386 comp 17.35 ext 29.5

I do not want to spend more then about $50 per shock even though Andy at Ironman is trying to convince me I need a good nitrogen charged shock.

i dont think that youll be racing it any time soon..... and by racing i mean 40mph

Yea but I am going to work on up travel and clearance the body some soon I hope.

I had a thought yesterday. My problem with my current shocks is not enough up travel. They are too long in the compressed state. I currently run a 7.5 coil and coil spacer. The spacer is coming out to drop it down and a leaf will come out the rear to drop it down. This will give me maybe 2" of up travel. I have shocks that require a .5 bolt instead of the factory post or stud. Removing that would gain another 1.5" - 2" of up travel. Problem is a new mount. I thought about cutting a 3" square hole for the shock to go up through and making a 3" square box out of plate that it would mount to. The box would be no more then an inch or two above the stock mount location. I don't have the stuff to do full hoops or anything like that right now, nor do I have the tube. I could get some pipe easily and bend it with my buddies harbor freight pipe bender but I think the tower would be better and remove less of the inner fender. Any thoughts?

Trying to find motivation to work on the heep!

Going to try something different on the bump stop end of things.
