CS-144 Alternators for a Renix

It's in. I'm happy with how it turned out. I'll load the pics up tonight and post a write up. I'll try to make it detailed enough to earn sticky status. Haha. Now to look up the pinout diagrams of each alternator and wire up the new harness.

Wouldn't just the amps be different?

I meant that it's still reading in the 9s on my dash. My alternator went out as I was driving so my batt has been low on voltage for the past two days. I've gotten the new alternator in but it's not charging. I just verified. I'm curious as to why. There's only two wires to wire up, I wonder if it requires a sense wire etc. It is a 4 prong plug. I can't find any accurate pinout of the new alternator.

Well its in but I'm not getting a higher voltage signal to my gauge. I wonder if I wired it wrong. Guess I need to check voltage @ the charge stud. My battery may still be deadish

what did it take to bolt it up? Does it need an external regulator?

Where did you grab it from? What vehicle did you use to look it up?

Put a good charge on the battery ?

I swapped a good renix alternator in and it charges fine. Wasn't the fuseable link. I'm curious as to how any pins need to be wird up from the ad244 4pin alternator. I may have gotten a bad alternator from Autozone. I'll be doing a write up as soon as I get one in and charging. Fitment is an issue with these. They take up a lot of room.

Does anyone have an accurate pin out of a ad244?

If you can find a connector (which you'll need anyway) it might have letters on the pins. Sometimes the pins are labeled on the alternator housing or connector too. Those letters map to standard functions for SI and CS alternators (link) and might be the same for the AD but I don't know

If the alternator has an “F” terminal (i.e. no "I" terminal):

It must be excited by the L terminal.
When exciting via the L terminal, there must be some resistance in the circuit (bulb and/or resistor) or a short circuit will be created.
If no alternator warning lamp is desired, a 50 Ohm resistor is used.
If an alternator warning lamp is used, a resistor should still be used, in parallel with the lamp. This is so that the bulb burning out does not prevent current flow and therefore alternator excitation. The resistor should be equivalent to a 3-4 watt bulb. Using Ohms law, we can use the Electrical Wheel of Doom from Part 1 to calculate the required value of the resistor as R = V^2 / Watts. In this case R = (14v*14v) / 4W = 49 Ohms. So a 50 Ohm resistor will do.

From Billavista There's some more good info on the AD244 there

Interestingly in every adapter I see none have a resistor.

I will take a wild guess that the XJ wiring already has provisions for the gauge cluster that is/was stock to your XJ.

I am waiting to see how you guys adapt that fat mounting ear on the bigger unit.

Jon, From some searching I have done they are from 2000-2005 New Body style full size GM trucks. They are internally regulated. There are 2 different outputs. One is 130a and the other is 145a. I will confirm CQ PN/each alt output when I go to work tomorrow.
But, you could always go to a JY and pull an alt. There is a code on the top that says amp output.

I know that the S-10 4.3L Vortec uses a CS130D (basically same as ours, but not sure on the specific mounting) In theory should be easy to fit.

and the s130D is higher output?

I still want to see Pics of Chris's setup for the bolt in and wiring. Id be down to put one of these in both of my renix rigs...

Sorry Jon, the part I Was referring to bolting in the ad244. The CS130D is about the same output, maybe a little more, as ours stock IIRC.
Since the ad244 is plug n pray For the CS130D application it should fit decent in our heeps.

There are several styles ad244. Different case configurations etc. I was stuck working on my grandfather's 86 cj7 today. Freaking wiring night mare. Tomorrow or tonight I'll have to mess with my alternator.

Ah ok. SO only certain ones will bolt in. I see. I would love to see which part number and what vehicle you went with to get one to bolt up. And of course the wiring.

Well, since you have already moved modded one, it would not be hard to make it fit really.

But, if Chris would stop being lazy and post what the alt. PN is then that would help somewhat. I could interchange the number at work tomorrow if it is not already the same number.

These applications are 5.5" apart I didn't verify the measurement the oreilly guy did it in front of me.
I imagine drilling out the stock bracket 1/4" would be alright.
