CS-144 Alternators for a Renix

There's many conversion posts on the www saying the pinout is the same. Only problem is the mounting. The only one with a similar mount that is also 140 amp I found the escalade I mentioned. I just had surgery 3 days ago so I haven't checked it out yet.

I think there is an off the shelf adapter available. From what I can find, the 144 should have somewhere around 60-80 amps of output at idle. The larger AD244 puts out a little more at idle and is rated at 145 amps. It's also a drop in replacement for the 144 in most applications.

I don't know which vehicles will have the correct mounting style for the CS144, but you should look for these for the AD244. The AD244 will have "Delphi Automotive" cast into the pulley end of the housing. I'm also pretty sure that many of the vehicles listed also came equipped with the CS144. The case mounting for the AD244 in these applications appears identical to the mounting for the CS130 jeep application, so maybe a 144 from these applications is what you want.

Just for giggles, here's something I picked up for $5 at the scrapyard a while back. Needed a set of brushes, a pulley, and the slip rings trued up.

These applications are 5.5" apart I didn't verify the measurement the oreilly guy did it in front of me.
I imagine drilling out the stock bracket 1/4" would be alright.

That is great, now besides the mounting what about the pins etc?

7$ for AD244 pigtails on Ebay

Yeah buy a generic pigtail, then cut the stock at the same length. Then a male weatherpack on the harness, and female weatherpacks on the two pigtails. Then you can switch between alternators just by switching the pigtail.

Be sure that you actually get the AD244 and not a DR44. The DR is a newer version and IIRC, one of the parts(don't remember which) is integral with the rear cover, so when it fails it's more expensive to repair/replace.

Good luck! I wish they had stuck with Delco alternators instead of going to the bastard mount nippondenso on later jeeps.

I got one in the mail but I'm getting ready for stroker break in so I want to get back on the road before messing with it again.

So the 244 is bigger and higher output and marginally close to bolting up and a electrical connections going in easy? And it is still internally regulated?

Im very interested in a writeup. I have my alternator where the AC used to be with a 76.5" belt ,but I still go through them. I have about 4 spares though.

googled it and found this:
http://alternatorparts.com/ad230-ad244-series-high-output-alternators.html

this one says that you might need a longer belt:
