Countdown to Moab!

Eleven hours is nothing. You just have to break it down into shorter sections in your head. LA -> Vegas -> Cedar City -> 15/70 junction -> Moab.

A couple years ago, I drove 26 hours straight from Whistler B.C. to get home. Of course, I did have a co-driver, but we both ended up driving 13 hours. Now THAT was a brutal drive. :)

I might have to take out a loan for gas though... LOL

I'm going to put putting one of my kidneys up for sale in the For Sale forum. With all the alcoholics around here, it might fetch a pretty penny.

Actually, since I have two Jeeps, I'm going to be selling my little Mazda. And that money will go towards gas for the Moab trip.

Damn Robert, that's a long drive to only get like 2.5 days of wheeling. I plan on getting there by Sunday night. I just HAVE to get there before FordGuy (personal joke). :D

XJBananaMan??? How about MelloYello?

I'd like to go... still trying to get the ducks in a row... I'd like to bring the daughter, but school is getting tougher... might bring a buddy from work... ??
Probably show on Mon. wheel a little... sight see a little... win an XJ... :wave1:
See Ya !! (hopefully)

I know, but it's better than not going at all (which there is the potential I can't make it)

I'm going to be there nearly the whole week this time. :D I'll be helping both registration and dinner.

What I'd like to get done:
1. Buy some Amsteel winch cable and install my winch
2. fix my steering slop but JCR never called me back yet
3. get my new rear leafs installed
4. Might need to find that squeaky pulley before it seizes up.
5. get some new bumper caps with quarter panel protection
6. get some H4/HID housings and install my HIDs
7. might do OTK but we'll see.

I've done the Moab drive in 1 shot everytime and been there and back twice. Its not that bad unless you have a family who needs to stop every 20 minutes. :)

I have never been out to MOAB, maybe next year I will be built enough (both open diffs suck)

So you guys don't count me in the SoCal chapter anymore?

I'm here in no man's land, but I'm still SoCal........except when I'm Sierra. :)

My Moab plan is always to leave after work and drive to Cedar City. On the way home it's a one shot deal. If anyone just crashes for a nap in their car, or sleeps in their RV, there is a rest area just as you come into Cedar City, and there is a Flying J in Cedar City with a bunch of parking. There's also a Walmart across the freeway from the Flying J. If you leave later, Mesquite is a good place to stop.

I'll be leaving Thurs after work.....the 2nd.

Well, technically speaking, the northern border of Socal is Pendelton, but some swear that is the mexican border. :)

Since I'm by I8, I was looking at 8E to AZ 85, then up the 17 to flagstaff and taking the back roads. I'm traveling in the RV flat towing, so I'll be doing 55ish anyway. Google maps has mileage at 787 for I15 and 793 for the scenic route. Although going I15 gives more support in case of breakdowns. :)

Both are nice drives. You could go up on your route and come back on I70 and I15. Going you would pass Monument Valley, and it's scenic coming into Moab from the south. The other route takes you on I70, and some say that stretch from Green River to I15 is the most scenic interstate in the country, it's definitely nice.

Can't loose either way. :)

One year Dad and I had some time to get back, so we went south from I70 and went on UT12 (I think) going through Capital Reef NP, Bryce Canyon NP, and Zion NP, that is DEFINITELY a nice drive.

I'd rather hit my thumb with a hammer then drive I-15... yeah there's better support... but I HATE I-15 !!! Virgin Riv. Gorge is cool as is the few miles N. of St. Geo. Zion to Bryce to Escalante to Boulder... is amazing... the drive from Henryville up to Gr. River is ehhh... Henryville also has the SLOWEST gas pump in N.America...
N. out of Flag. to Kayenta through Monument is nice... Mexican Hat... Blanding...
If you've got the time... go one way & come home the other...
I love the back roads of S. Utah... can't stand I-15, but if you've got to get there in a timely manner... I guess its the way to go...

Curt

I am dreading the 15 fwy too. Don't know the area that well but I was thinking about how much I hate to drive and If there would be a more interesting route that was not too far out of the way.
