hey guys, i have a 97 cherokee 4wd 4.0 auto. im looking for a used tranny i found one. is the 94 auto 4wd transmission compatible?

Yes. Both would be 23 spline outputs and will mate to your transfer case.

I'm 99.9% sure the wiring harness to the TCU is identical. I'v never heard of someone having issues with it.
Do a search here looking for trans swap or 4wd conversions. I'll bet you find that some have successfully swapped 94 and 97 trans without issue.
See if you can get a pic of the plug on the trans you may pruchase and compare to your. Shape and wire count

well hopefully i wont need to buy the 94 trans since i need to put 8 more quarts in the one thats in my jeep now lol
