97 aw4 internal wiring comparability across years and 2nd/4wd

Anyone know if 2wd and 4wd wiring is compatible? Know where a 97 2wd tranny is I could pull from or I have to wait more than a week to get a 4wd one. Any ideas of the compatibility? Heck have a 94 we are rebuilding I could borrow from. The 97 is my daily driver and definitely need it back up asap.

The solenoid conecctors literally fell out in pieces on mine when I was getting ready to swap solenoids due to an intermittent shifting issue. Guessing this is likely the root cause of it all.

The 2wd versus 4wd AW4 internal wiring is identical. If swapping transmissions though, pay attention to the year on the trans though, as there was a change in 98. https://naxja.org/threads/everything-you-ever-wanted-to-know-about-the-aw4.1053970/

The plastic shroud on the solenoid connectors isn't very important, aside from preventing the wire from shorting to the trans. I've seen where people end up using a zip-tie to secure it. I believe the connection itself is a standard spade connector, and you could use an insulated 1/4 spade there.

Thanks! I suspected that. Yes it is a standard spade connection. Never thought about using a zip tie. Swapped solenoids one was a little iffy the ohms would float ten settle. Will zip tie them and give it fresh fluid and see what happens.
