Colorado B/S Thread

Re: The Colorado BS thread

For a jeep a 5.3 is plenty. The iron/aluminum 6.0 is great if you are going for power, but the 5.3 with a set of headers is a solid package for a rig. Save your money and run the 5.3

If you're going to go to the effort of a V8 swap, I'd all day go with an LQ9.

More money up front yes, but it's going to be the same amount of effort, and from guys I've talked to who have done both, they wish they had just gone with the 6.0L off the bat (as far as ability for top end numbers, easier tunability, aftermarket support edging more towards them, etc.).

Not that a 5.3L wouldn't be nice, and a bit more HP...but to me 6.0L all day long :D

Been pricing them when I pull trigger it will be a low miles Lq4 and 480le ...the lq9 only islf a smokibg deal is found . The 4l80e not the 4l65 or 4l60...lol...because my xj weighs 3 tons.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Well not working on the xj for a couple more weekd , so decided to up size the tow rigs rubber fron 33x10.5 to 35x12.50 mud terrains , so I can do some mild trails...going to make a set of hd rock rails for it so I do not end up with a beater towing the xj

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Gears and choices...My truck has 3.73 gears and had 31s stock with 35s that is around 4.20 ratio to equal stock with 31s and 3 73...4.10 and 31s is the other stock option to equal that is about a 4.45...seeeew basically 4.10 to equal what it was and 4.56 to get what factory 410 would had been...I'm leaning towards 4.56 as that allows a jump to 37s and not run out of gear.

Truck accelerates fine unloaded 800+lbs if torque at 1200 rpm is rather forgiving especially with a 6 speed auto compared to the old 4spds , but I have not pulled the big grades and that is where I want my performance I care not about fuel economy ...lol...only fools buy a 7000lb truck for mpg ...I may wait to order the 4.56 until I get to test drive it on the 35s in the hills ...Truck just became money eating toy number Two .

Re: The Colorado BS thread

On a fun note I took the xj in its incomplete state with no rear shocks and various stuff not done yet for run over to a local ledge obstacle by one of the lakes I was previously un able to climb this at 106 wb on 40s at 3psi with ttead grooved and siped , so beating it with 25 psi in the tires with non modded lugs and no shocks feels like a solid win . I also took this as an opportunity to test my welds on my homemade driveshafts on a real obstacle so instead of looking for a line to walk up I mashed the pedal until it found its grip to go over ...lol...Man this is going to be fun to wheel in when done .

You should find an online gear ratio calculator to run the numbers.

I do not need that ...every 1 inch + or - changes ratio by a tenth ...or you can go fancy take curtent tire size say 31 and new of 35 divide the 31 into the 35 take that number and multiply by cutrent ratio and it will give a number...that number it the ratio you need to be mathematically the same...ir you do what I said first for evey 1 inch of tire , but this does not account for things like added weight and rolling resistance, so that leaves a bit of question...I think 4.56 is the way to go doing a 4.10 is a waste and 4.56 will even allow 37s ...lol...hell 35s still look like stock rubber on this pig .

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Picked up a tow rig this weekend. 2500 Burbank with the 8.1. Shooting to create a gas shortage single handedly.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

8.1 gas ... Hey, is Montrose County pretty flat ?

Lol she ran up monarch holding back pulling the trailer and loaded with rest of crap from Denver.
Ran springs to montrose on just under half a tank cruising with ease. She only makes like 330 horse but rated 520tq with this trans. She'll be aight.
