Well, for one, I'd be pretty embarrassed to be the Wheat Ridge investigator(s) involved in this case. I don't see how those charges could even be substantiated with probable cause given the fact that it's painfully clear the old man didn't pre-meditate or even act out of bias or hate. He saw a crime being committed against his property and when he went to protect his property, his life was placed at risk.
There's TONS of precedent cases out there just like this one where the homeowner was never charged, and certainly not with 12 counts of "lets stack on whatever could possibly or remotely fit" charges.
I believe this will eventually go away....... but what really pisses me off is that to defend himself in court, its going to cost that old man WAY more than the value of his trailer should he have just let them steal it.
And I'm sorry. If you're in this country illegally...... there should be no expectation for the legal system to provide any assistance/protection to you in any regard. Those two suspects should be deported and consider themselves lucky to be able to see tomorrow.
