chinese "QUALITY"

Don't hear me saying that I do not think it is wise to buy a high quality product. I am just saying that economic structures do not encourage that. Furthermore, it is blind nationalism to de facto assume that not only does "American Made" mean better quality but also that "American Made" mean "American Made."

Agreed.

As a "fricken foreigner", Made in USA means nothing more to me than made in Japan, Taiwan, whatever. It's probably half decent but you still have to watch what you are buying; if it's cheap there is probably a reason.

Buying a sh!tty product is a crap shoot based up where it is built. I give more weight to reviews and manufacturer history, for example.

Example: when a formerly good manufacturer starts making crap they get moved to the crap list with the rest. In recent history, Sony comes to mind. 10-15 years ago their consumer grade stuff was fairly resonable quality/price. Now it seems to be junk. Their policies on DRM makes me ignore their "prosumer" stuff (that's my policy).

What I'm saying is junk is junk regardless of where it is made.

It's virtually impossible to find any electronic goods that are NOT made in China. My Toshiba laptop, Fuji digital camera, Sharp TV, and Panasonic DVD player are all made in China. If you can find anything still made in Japan, buy it.

Also, on a related note, I went clothes shopping a couple of weeks ago. Came home with a pair of Vietnam-made Nikes and a pair of Bangladesh-made Levis. :laugh3:

Your toshiba laptop was made in tiwan. Flip it over and look @ the bottom. Your Fuji camera was made in Japan the only place they have baseus. your sharp tv and dvd player were deffinatly made in china. :D

Honestly quality merch can come from anywhere..

Nope, Toshiba laptop and Fuji camera most definitely made in China. It's funny how even Japanese companies outsource their products.

And Helix is correct...quality can come from anywhere. The truth of the matter is that China is more than capable of producing high quality products, whether it be electronics or Jeep parts.

For example, China could produce a hub assembly that meets or exceeds original equipment specs. However, that would come at a price. And the distributors who supply parts to Autozone and Kragen are not willing to pay that price.

China is not producing cheap auto parts and selling them to stupid unsuspecting American distributors on their own initiative. Companies are going to the Chinese factories and saying, "We want you to make these...cheaply. Quality is secondary".

Japanese companies, like Toshiba, have their names and reputations on the line. So yes, you can get high quality goods that were made in China. The Japanese quality control people live at the factories.

Auto parts distributors have nothing on the line. They operate under a dozen different names, none of which are well known. As another example, Timken is known to offer a high quality hub assembly. However, these are made overseas. But since they are sold under the Timken name, the company insists on quality.

So enough of the China bashing already. They produce whatever their customers say to make. So blame the companies that are selling the stuff.

I have experience in international business. I lived and worked in Japan for a company that had factories in Korea and Taiwan.

I look at it this way...China has WMDs and has put men into outer space. Are you saying they can't make a good hub assembly? :) Rant over...sorry.

Bah, c'mon now Johnny it's obvious you're just saying this 'cause youre...

...a FedEx guy.

I just checked, Toshiba and Fuji actually are both manufacturerd in Tiawan and Korea. My bad :)
