Chinese Hummer's

Humvee=HMMWV pronounced phonetically.

I know but being in the military he should know that's how it sounds not how it's written.

there trying to get us strikers

Unless your british or aussie and talking about the Alvis Striker. I'm going to assume you mean Strykers.

Wow ,I never realized typing Hummer instead of Humvee would have caused such a problem, and just because I am military and have driven Humvee's does not mean I am without mistakes...sorry to all those offended. I was just giving my opinion between Mil and Civ. It's not like I said...all Muslims are evil and Democrats are weakening America! ( IMO they are!)

I guess someone's upset?

who?

I thought you for one and a few others stating I should know better since I am military, because you keep correcting my Hummer/Humvee/HMMWV tags! I figure we all know the point of the story....civ Hummers suck compared to Mil HMMWV's/Hummers/Am General/Humvee's/transportation. I am not quite sure how this went from......China bought Hummer to this point. I dunno it's not that important.

ok i'm going to speak up here... and i am going to call it humvee... because its the way it sounds and quite honestly i am not going to sit here and think of the official acronym. oh and i am ex mil and drove them. both the standard and uparmored version (and no i dont remember the official designation of each and dont care).

i realy wasnt impressed with them... maybe it was just our motorpool(which wouldnt surprise me), but all of them had terrible vibrations, bad pickup, A-arms that lasted no longer than a year, some were stuck in 4lock lo, fiberglass hoods that we kept cracking on tree branches, and also fiberglass radiator fans that shattered if you crossed water faster than 5mph(unless you had a highwater fording kit, which none of the ones issued to us had...). the radiator fan thing was what really got me, and on more than one occasion a humvee was left stranded because of it. luckily it was never in combat, and noone died, but that could be a pretty serious problem if you had to get out of somewhere fast.

to me their redeeming value was that they had awesome center clearance, really godo brakes, and if you had the bumper removed then you could go up to a wall and start climbing till it flipped over (never took it that far).

all in all i think its time for a change... they had their day (gulf war 1), and tactics have now changed, and so does the equipment need to. it i going to be hard to come up with the "perfect" vehicle for todays combat, but i think the MRAPs and MATV (not the same thing M-ATV is a smaller version of MRAP) are pretty good.

oh and just in line with the OP, china can have hummer... i never liked them anyways, and maybe this will take them to a place where they wont come back

The civ Hummer H1 is the same as the HMMWV. The H3 isn't half bad. I've driven a couple 5 cyls and while not outrageously fast, it was enough.

I have been to China and never got a hummer. Did I miss something special?

The "new" Hummer Chinese owned company will continue the contract to purchase GM fuel efficient and multi fueled engines to install in the Hummers. This company purchase allows the Chinese mother corporation access to the GM developed engine management technology. They'll reverse engineer it, make it cheaper, probably less reliable and sell it back to us.

Its going to be like the Jeep 2500!! maybe in ten years, h2 and h3 owners will be importing upgraded body panels from China via group order!!
yay

I look at it this way.

GM interior plastics can't get any cheaper/low rent so if anything quality may get better.

Darky I don't know how you can say an H3 has adequate power; my girlfriend's mom has one, I've driven it a few times and it felt like a pig compared to the XJ.

Back when we started fielding them, we called them Hummers and HMMWV's. Hummers came from our slang, so who really cares what GM calls them?

Yeah, I remember replacing the M151's, Dodges (M880) and the M1009 series CUCV. Doing drivers training for idiot MP's in Berlin was a PIA.

Either way, give me an M35A2W/W any day. Better that some know it all kid. :-)

I don't expect my 4x4 to be fast...maybe I've just learned patience and the art of enjoying a slow car...;)
94 Tracker - 2300lbs 65hp
92 Trooper - 4000+lb 180hp
90 Samurai - 2000lbs 53hp (factory, but mine had the dead cylinder upgrade, so I probably saw more like 35hp from the 3 functional cylinders)
Then came the XJ
2000 Focus - 2700lbsish 103 hp

The H3 was not a rocketship, but it never left me worrying that I wasn't going to get through traffic, make it up a hill, and it climbed to freeway speeds within a reasonable amount of time.

I think there are plenty of idiots with too much money and not enough brains that have already done this.

I dont expect mine to be fast either, but getting on the freeway in the H3 seemed considerably worse than in my XJ.

It seems like the XJ was your fastest car!!!:rof:
