UWHARRIE NAT'L FOREST

Here's my .02:

Uwharrie can be fun to wheel IF it is wet. In early July, thats a mighty big if... Even then, I've seen woody run it wet in a stocker and I ran it wet locked rear on 32's.

Most of you who suggest Uwharrie are close to it and have been there at least several times.

People who live further away and would be driving 4+ hrs to the Crawl would most likely be disappointed with the wheeling in the likely event that it's bone dry and dusty.

Uwharrie is simply not a wheeling 'destination'. It is a state park that mostly serves local people i.e. within 2 hrs drive time.

We should definitely look at setting up a M&G weekend some other time but not for the crawl.

I agree that DPG is a lot of fun for an afternoon too. I hate the idea of burdening another club to operate our club's annual event.

All that said; if the crawl were to be held at Uwharrie, I would probably come for Sat & Sun. I just couldn't justify taking time off work to go there.

The Crawl is supposed to be the SE Chapter's premier event. It does need to ideally have something for everyone, and it is definitely not a meet and greet. I have not been to one in a few years, but in the past, it was not uncommon for people to travel from the Midwest or NAC. Hell, I think Crunch even came from CO one time.

I have not been to URE, but from what I have seen/heard/read, people are not going to travel there from very far away.

The tough part about this is how fitting Tellico is/was for everyone's levels. It seems to be getting difficult to find a place with that much variety.

Harlan is definitely geared toward the more extreme rigs, but what about all the trail-riding trails all over that place? Might be kinda fun for stockish types...especially when wet? When I went last year, we covered over 30 miles in two days just getting around to all the tougher stuff. That included some significant amounts of time spent on specific obstacles.

Anyone have a good connection with Windrock that they might be able to exercise to get a discounted rate for the group? Just a thought. Maybe offer to buy some things from them to use in the raffle?

Zac you need to back off now. You do not know nore have you ever worked on organizing this event. You have not been here and do not know what she has done for this club. Frankly I'm about sick of your crap and attacks on the SE chapter. You did not even make it to the meet and greet at URE. So why don't you just back off and sit back and see what happens. If you last out a year or more and still think you can do it better by all means step up. Some of us have lives and are not meerly college students or single with no comitments.

I was slightly Inebriated last night so forgive me for my rude comment.. Shit happens, we jeep, we get over it.

And I'm happy to see your concerned on being able to afford gas for these M&G... being a poor college kid and all. Maybe you didn't read that my damn transfer case blew up on 220 on the way there... so yeah...

No I did not hear you had a tcase "blow up" only that you had problems. As for being able to afford gas maybe you should consider that when you criticize people for volunteering to organize these things and working on the chapter. We all have our problems and difficulties in our life so don't cry me a river. You have been a member a grand total of 5 months so why sit back and watch how difficult it can be to get stuff together. If you want to do some Meet and greets that is fine have at it. Stop criticizing and help out.

If all goes well that won't be needed...Been doing quite a bit of organizing myself

Good Luck.

I just wanted to let everyone know that my wife has been in contact with the people who run windrock and the Coal Creek people who own Windrock, and they can't offer us any kind of group discount. They said it was due to insurance purposes, that everyone who enters the park has to have a pass and a waiver. With that said, even if the crawl is not at Windrock, everyone should take a trip out there and wheel sometime. If is deffinitely worth the money. There is over 72,000 acres of trails, and trails for everyone to ride form easy to EXTREME.

Also, they do discount the mulit-day passes a little bit.

two day-$33
three day-$44
four day-$55
Yearly pass-$88

Yea but what additional charges are there for more then one person in the vehichle?

Damn... Thats how much gas to and from there will be each way for me... how shitty.

I'll be honest w/ you.. before I'll drive to Delta, AL for Morris Mountain... I'll be switching events to Rousch Creek w/ an NAC.... It's actually closer..

EDIT: Not that Morris Mountain's easy or anything.. just that it's about 500 miles from my house... towing a XJ... well it's just way too expensive for a weekend...

I can't say about Harlan trails now... but a few years ago there was a bunch of trails a 'stock' Jeep can do. Some required a lot of gas pedal, others liked some brake...

No community ever reached out at me & us like Evarts KY.... IT WAS ALMOST CREEPY! but ???
