Well the thought is actually to kinda move it around some. Harlan this year, maybe Morris mountain next year. Maybe Tellico or Callentee after that.

Just because I don't have to turn but twice doesn't make it any shorter between the turns... Gunna cost me 20 billion dollars to pull my car trailer that far with my gas guzzlin truck. Zac, we need to tow both of ours up on the same trialer and split the gas.

This was a two person decision?

There sure seems to be an awful lot of opinions out there for you to just matter of factly make that decision.

I've been sitting quietly watching, but I have to add my two cents.

The best part of the national events I have been to (WF and the crawl) have been the people. You never wheel enough, most of the volunteers always have some type of commitment to come back early for anyway.

I understand the need to satisfy everyone's rigs and their capabilities, but it sure seems like we've sacrificed a much easier destination (logistically speaking) in the interest of 5 people who have those capabilities.

I certainly hope that we don't alienate potential new members with smaller Jeeps in the interest of providing "great" wheeling for rigs with 37" tires. This event should be about meeting people and having a good time wheeling, then having a good time around a campfire.

So Josh are you suggesting Tellico again?

To me "my opinion" staying at Crawfords pretty much turned me off from having the Crawl up there. By my time it takes between 30-45 mins. to get to the trail head and that's about stupid, again IMO. I mean some could stay at Tellico Cabins but that pretty much defeats the whole meet/greet/campfire atmosphere.

I was "shushed" for saying the Crawl should have a more meet/greet atmosphere...

So what is it? Meet/Greet -OR- Hardcore wheeling

It's going to be hard to find a happy medium...

Also, with the recent "improvements" to Tellico taking place.. it's not going to be any more difficult than Uwharrie National Forest. The majority of the trails have been ridiculously smoothed out and all that's challenging anymore is going to be Guardrail (30yrds. long) and Schoolbus (and last time I was there they were "improving" it as well)... add to that a 45 min. ride to the trails and you may as well hold the Crawl at Uwharrie (atleast camping is 5mins from the trails).

I believe (at least I hope) there will be an actual vote around the end of Feb. on the location. I feel about 100% positive it will not be at Callalantee (too challenging and small) and hope it's not at Tellico (too far of a drive everyday to wheel). That pretty much leaves MM and Harlan.

ALSO:

I guess you could say the heads will be at Callalantee Feb 23/24.. come up and add your $0.02... Maybe we can get a mixed group of rigs together and see is Harlan's for everyone? IDK it's only 120 miles from Callalantee

i've only been to tellico and windrock, and my XJ is stock, with 30s on a 3" lift...

since i can't do any "hardcore wheeling" i usually take any open seat on the trail and tag along in different rigs taking pics for everybody... so far that hasn't been a problem, but as much as i love taking pics, i wanna wheel my jeep too...

I think hardcore wheeling is great and all, but some people can't afford to shell out $1500 on RE long arm kits and such. Little jeeps should be able to play too otherwise what kind of "XJ" community are we? If trails are to easy then quit building your jeeps so big. Personally I don't want a giant jeep that makes everything easy to pass. But that's just my opinion. Harlan better be worth the drive for my jeep being 3in and 31's. Also you guys can't say the Crawl isn't somewhere to meet and greet. I recall last year meeting and talking to nearly ten different people in the first ten minutes I was there and that was like 10:30 that night. That and standing around a t.v. watching video from that day talking with a bunch of people. I'm just saying the decision should be about everyone who is in this region not about everyone who wants some crazy trails. That way everyone can ride.

i say, ....awesome! the sec has a location for the crawl!

i thought i heard some one say that variety was the spice of life. and i really f*cking love indian food! so give up and start saving, selling crap or prostituting your services. make that money, and get to the location to have a good time.
i had a really good time at my first naxja sec event, the 07crawl. so for this year i hope to renew my membership soon and get to as many events and rides as possible. im a broke, unemployed full-time student with a mortgage. the advance notice is really appreciated.

I was agreeing with you. I don't think tellico is the answer either. While I don't think URE will satisfy everyone's wheeling tastes, it certainly is more conducive to an event atmosphere. My first wheeling trip was the URE safari with a bunch of land rover guys in 2001.

Harlen is the same distance from me as tellico. Some of the other places are a little closer. What about someone in florida or southern alabama? We're really going to have the SEC event in the MWC?

I see what you're saying... Also, Morris Mtn. is something like 500 miles from us... I mean that's a long way.

From my observations at the last crawl 75% or more members would enjoy Uwharrie type wheeling. With the event that's coming in May www.americanwheeler.com they are going to be leaving a large scale rock course at the entrance to Falls Dam... also anyone else that wants to wheel the big stuff can head up to DPG (w/ permission of course)

Purely logistically speaking.. Uwharrie is just as easy if not easier than Tellico to do.
*Large group camping on Badin Lake (fishing, bring your boat if you want, kids can swim)
*Camping is approx. 1-2miles from the trails
*El Dorado Outpost has supplies/food/gas trailer parking,etc.
*20 mins. from town
*1.25hrs from my house :doh:

But, it's my understanding Uwharrie isnt even going to be considered as an option?
