I don't get my heep on the trail very often. I have been to URE a few times when I was stock and it is a very easy trail system with only one area that was impassable but tried and took the bypass. I have been to URE many times as a passanger. I will not be able to attend the crawl but would go for the day if it was at URE. The only draw back would be the size of the trail system. For a multi day event we would be riding the same stuff over and over. DPG is nice been there once and and could ad to the fun. The other concern with URE would be the crowd. There has been to many time when the trails are so congested with rigs that it took some of the fun out of the trip.

Which one of you guys have been to Gulches and URE and care to compare along the lines of size. I feel like Gulches is quite small but still has lots of good stuff... How large is URE compared to Gulches?

I have not been to Gulches but at 88 acres it is a lot smaller. URE is a lot bigger acrage wise.

Gulches is a muddy mess anyways

Callalantee has ATV trails, but they are very tight and do not have good spots to turn around if need be. Welder is the main run, and I would not want to get stuck behind 10 rigs. At least at Harlen, URE and DPG there are places to park and watch other Jeeps without being in the way.

Devil's playground.. Lexington, NC... not just for BBQ anymore.

I will not be able travel anywhere this year, so if the crawl was held at URE/DPG I would definitely be there. URE does offer something for most every one.

Did I mention Rob is one hell of a cook?

Some of you people are ridiculous...

I would vote Harlan but I'm not sure I'll be able to make it since it's on the 4th...we'll see.

Harlan is a really fun place with an awesome campground.

First off let me say it again YOU DO NOT WANT TO HAVE THE CRAWL AT CALLALANTEE ... Blank that out of everyones mind! It is just not suited to large groups of vehicles... AND I for one DO NOT want to be sitting around behind a group or winching/pulling people out all day.. And that's about how it would be at Callalantee...

I'm also not sure how many of you have actually been there but it's gonna take more then one trip to be able to lead a group around up there... you'll spend the better part of a day lost I assure you.. There are NO trail markers and the map is horrible at best.

Now if you know the trail system then yeah it's fun.. but one or two people cannot lead 10 groups of people around.

As for Uwharrie ... Yes I can run the entire trail system at Uwharrie in 2wd... But, honestly that's not the point... at least not on my end. I was just looking for a more group oriented place for everyone to get together and hang out and wheel...

Harlan is fine by me... but are the people on anything less than 34's locked front/rear just going to hang out in town?

**** please dont let my post deter anyone from coming up to the meet/greet at Callalantee... We'll take it easy and everyone can keep up... It's one thing w/ 10-12 rigs and an entirely different animal w/ 30.... ****

Opps I should have rechecked the dates as the first week of July I will still be in FLA coming back on July 6th. So my vote would not count.

Thanks Zac for the compliment on my cooking skills(grew up in a resturant)

I have also ran most trails at URE in 2 wd but the point is for everyone to have fun, granted I would stick my XJ in places it shouldn't have been(damn I miss Paragon Park) when it was still rolling on 31's and 2" of lift.
Another URE video...Zac knows it well.

Well your right URE is not an option. The Crawl is somethimes the only BIG wheeling trip people on the SE make each year and there are 2 post right above mine that say welll yeah its not tought but that's not the point. YES it is. The Crawl is not a meet and greet. It must hve challenges for everyone to like it. I've had 5 of my regular participates tell me that if the Crawl is at URE they will not be there. The SEC BOD is still discussing and we are holdig off till we make a few runs.

All of you that are yelling URE will be there in May and then you want to turn aroud and go back in July.

Is it amazing that some of us wheel more than once a year?

I misunderstood... I thought the Crawl was supposed to be more meet/greet oriented... I appologize...

Also, May's a little different it's a high speed event through the forest... As for the Crawl being challenging for everyone... Have it at Harlan... it's plenty challenging .. But, from my observations at the last Crawl 75% of the vehicles there are probably going to struggle...

I will also say... Heather, thank you for all your efforts! I know it has to be hard to put on an event, especially of this magnitude. Also w/ any decent locations hours away it's even more difficult. Most of us work full time jobs and it gets even more difficult to plan anything.... Another thing... a lot of the comments are coming from people that were not at the last Crawl.. and while I'm sure the intentions are good... come out to one and then you can bitch about it if you're not happy. I also know that Heather wants this Crawl to be awesome since the last one struggled a little. I'll bicker back and forth but I'll be wherever it ends up being (unless something happens)... AND, if you need any help PM me and I'll see what I can do.

-Chris

I'M GOING TO YELL ONE MORE TIME! CALLALANTEE IS NOT AN OPTION! trust me...

I know I may be a little late to the game in this debate, but having just come back from Windrock it would a terriffic place to hold the Crawl. The place is huge, with trails that stockers can have fun on to trails that tube buggys on Rockwells and 44s pull cable on (wait for the pics:eek: ) With a campground every bit as nice as Crawfords, that is less than 5 miles from the trailhead.
Just a thought. Struggle On.

The problem I have with them is there pricing.

Yep, that's why I didnt suggest it... It would be an expensive weekend for families to wheel...

Permit Fee = $17.00/person/day

Wife and myself = $34.00/day x 3 days = $102.00/permit fees

Family of (4) = $68.00/day x 3 days = $204.00/permit fees

Add in Gas + Food + Lodging and well it's adding up...

Now, Struggler if you can work us a deal I would imagine it would be entertained as an option....

Morris Mountain has lines for stock to buggy and always a bypass. Stockers can drive right up and watch the hard lines too. It's not as big as Windrock but they are cutting or have cut more new trails. The gauntlet is pretty kewl. Randy and Chris are good guys too.

I've never been to the other two places but I'm game for trying them too! If it does end up being MM though we should make sure we get the date reserved asap. Clubs scarf up the weekends quickly for summer.
