Cash for clunkers

Yeah a buddy of mine traded his in for a new ranger. Got a brand new one for just over 10K. However, it worked out great for me too. the sunday before he traded it in, he let me swap out everything I could from his xj to my stock. Got lots of goodies. Dana 44, Rubicon express lift, 31" tires, etc.
good for you!!!!!:repair: I don't know...brand new Ranger w/ payments on 10k or old built up XJ w/ no payments....dude I think you got the best deal.....those payments are going to be a grind and he'll start missing that XJ everytime he looks at yours!:viking:

Surely you are not comparing a car that sold over 21 million copies with a serious cult following with that of the XJ which only sold 4 million and at best has a fair amount of enthusiasts.

Correction XJ final production # is 2,884,172 XJ's made from 83-01.

For comparision the Chrysler minivans sold about 9,000,000 in the same 83-01 time frame.

yesterday i found a 98 xj complete at the ecology in La Habra. I got the header pannel and mirrors for 80 bucks! Thanks cash for clunckers!!

I have a 91 Briarwood in my driveway.

Worse yet is I'm looking at a Caddy sitting here that is getting junked and thinking that the Northstar V-8 in it would have been nice for a buggy. Now the motor will be seized and sold for scrap. :(
don't feel bad, northstars are crap. my grandad has a caddy with the northstar, and i had to replace the head gaskets before 80k.(this was a REAL PAIN IN THE ARSE) then a year later, it starts running hot, so i think head gaskets, again? nope. the crappy orange antifreeze ate through a freeze plug and it was leaking through a pinhole in the freezeplug. i had to pull the whole motor out to get to it, because it was concealed in the bellhousing for the transmission.:explosion

Sounds like lack of maintenance to me

Nope. Northstars are notorious for "engineered failures." GM found that most buyers of Caddies were not likey to be repeat buyers due to age.

I've heard waterpumps are a much more common failure at that mileage though.

My old boss had a Northstar caddy. It's a great engine but they seem to eat head gaskets and it's not an easy or cheap repair. He was on his 3rd set at about 250K.

Damn Brendan, that is one nice looking car.
Besides, its not rollover red, its more like Minnesota rust!

Thanks!
Figured I should save about 24 gallons of gas over a two week period vs driving the Jeep to work every day. This is basically half the payment on the new car.

There are tens of thousands of non 5.9 grands already in junkyards for parts. There were less than 15 thousand 5.9 grands produced total. Why do we need to destroy a road worthy 5.9?
