Cal 4Wheel? Your opinion?

I've been a member of Cal4Wheel for 20+ years and have generally had the opinion they are a worthwhile organization that stands for the same things I do. While they may not always share the same ideas on tactics I fully support them by attending their events (WFF, Sierra Trek, Molina, etc.) and participating in the raffles, etc. (Some of you heard the story at this years SF about how my bud in the white TJ won the 2006 raffle Jeep)

I can't help but notice the complete lack of presence of Cal4Wheel here at NAXJA. I just can't imagine why. They are THE state wide 4 wheeling organization. We are all on the same team right?

My question is this; is the membership at the SC of NAXJA interested in offically aligning itself with Cal4Wheel? Why or why not? To those folks in Nevada this does concern you. You wheel California trails right?

I'm not on a mission from Cal4Wheel or anything. I just was curious and wanted to bring up the subject.

Im pretty sure we do make an annual donation to cal 4wheel.
Whether it's made on the chapter our local level, I do not recall.

This discussion has come up before. My own opinion is that Cal 4WD is a club much like NAXJA. Yes, it has a much bigger presence in California but NAXJA is more about Cherokees rather than for all OHVs. I think another reason that there isn't much talk about Cal 4WD is their events are expensive to attend and have very large turn-outs. Personally I have no interest in running any trail with 100 other vehicles. Even with the organized activities like winter fun fest, sierra trek and such I have no real interest in joining or attending any Cal 4WD events.

I have to agree. I use my 4WD to get away from people, get to places not everyone can go, and to explore with friends. I like to have some freedom with what I do, I hate being on vacation wheeling and been told when and where to go. Some people love that kind of experience, just not for me.

Like NAXJA, Cal 4WD does help our fight to keep our lands open, and I have donated some good money to them.

I've been a paid member of Cal4Wheel since 2002 and plan to maintain that membership until I'm dead or unable to pay, whichever comes first. I believe in their cause and efforts to keep our trails open. Although I prefer to wheel with smaller groups, I have had great times with Cal4Wheel sponsored events as well. I have the right to choose which events I participate in and know my small donation goes to a good cause that we can all benefit from.

I like the fact that they do so much to keep the trails open here in Cali. We did the snow run this year out of Nevada City and had a good time. We also did Molina this year but felt the people were not inviting.
We will belong to this organization because of all they do but just don't feel to do runs with them.
