here's what really is gonna go in it

That's a nice manifold but where dose the sc mount? To the top? Nvm nvm I see it now lol

Sorry for the delay, I've been under the weather a bit...

The installation is complete, Piggyback is working and we are making about 6lbs of boot. Care to break the back tires loose with the brake applied? This is the ticket! For those going to the Easter Jeep Safari, Rick will be there to answer questions and I do believe the XJ will be there as well. For those lucky enough to live in Colorado, the XJ is slated to be at the M&G on April 23 and will be available to impress. I have driven it and can tell you that it is a beast. We have started looking at the Davies-Craig EWP (electric water pump) install. Should give a performance and mileage boost due to redused engine drag. We are also inprocess of building a cowl induction setup to get as cold as possible air charge for the blower.

Final Installation of the SC...

The red box is the piggyback. The SMT-8 has an USB port so you can tweek the performance. What fun!!!

Damn, that looks almost factory:shocked::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

That setup is clean I like it alot I'd run that kit before the newest I think just because of the 6 injector setup

On pre 2005? A piggyback system will get it done like the aem but it is not smog legal in cali. I don't know if the split sec of unichip is ca smog legal would be good to lookinto I know I've seen a few unichips on eBay for cheap and there
plug n play but require finding a certified tuner or expensive software. Can look into a reflash. But I haven't look into these

Haha true or unichip does have the option of a tune over wifi they rent you a laptop with Bluetooth it connects to your cellphone and they tune via this connection with you driving it's actually pretty sweet. Also includes a wideband O2 sensor the cost is about $300 for a 2 week rental I was looking into this option before I felt confident that I could do the aem myself

Ya unichip is expensive too. By the time u buy the plug n play for 5-600 and then pay 300+ to tune it it's alot of money. Like I said the main issue with aem is califrnia smog laws. But I don't think there really is a legal California piggy back.

Rick is in the process of getting the Mini SC kit CARB'd. I have seen the paperwork which for those that have never lived in the land of CARB, is extensive. Enough so the you need an Atterny to deal wit dotting the I's and crossing the T's. Once the Mini is CARB'b, I'd expect it to be only a matter of time befor the rest of the SC kits (Rover, XJ, T,J etc...) are put through the approval process. Sad truth is that the Mini crowd is much more likely to spend the bucks on performance upgrades than we are.

Yes, I grew up in the land of CARB... I remember when emissions first started... I remember "crankcase breather tubes"... Ah yes, nothing like following a vehicle with massive blow-by pucking a steady stream of oil vapor out from under it. On the other hand, it did keep dirt roads oiled...

But I escaped and have lived to tell the tale!

What really needs to be kept in mind is that this is a bolt on kit that anyone who can change an exhaust manifold can do. I do know that Rick is looking into using the AEM ECU extension harness to simplify the wiring. Just plug it in and go play smoke the tires.

So to continue to wish that he will make changes is futile at best and counterproductive at worst. If I had the resources (I'm on SSDI, so it is unlikely) I would have no qualms about installing one. We cannot compare this system to any other "generation" as it is completely different starting with the Sprintex Blower and working out from there. Have any of you nay sayers actually looked at the Sprintex site? Reviewed the history of the company? Or, are you just wanting to throw rocks because they do not do things the way you think they should be done? It is a (mostly) free world. If you disagree with how this is done, please, by any means, put together your own version for sale.

So, flame on if you like. It's a free (well...) site after all.

I never said sprintex was bad at all. Hell this is the cleanest sc setup I've seen yet. I had never seen ricks old setup. I'm not trying to put down a company before it's truely up. I'm stating things I would prefer. I'd rather not run an extra injector but if that's the way he makes it work then great I know it's hard to get things carb approved but living in California as you once did it's a big dealbreaker on parts like this. Why run it if I have to take it off every two years for smog. I'm excited to see this kit and curious how I will do. I hope to dissapear from the land of carb also soon but it takes time

Dave, I sincerely hope you're not accusing me of flaming Rick. I respect the guy. You've been dealing with Rick for just a few weeks, but I've been talking to him since Nov 2009. I KNOW he's dedicated to making a proper/ simple plug-in kit; most importantly, Rick didn't bail on his promises like a certain other turbo builder whose name I don't care to mention

I was simply stating MY situation (read. MY situation). I have Rick's first gen kit. He promised to help me gather the parts necessary to convert it using a modern fuel management system. I don't own a sprintex SC so I really rather avoid a 7th injector, but seeing as how my tuning options are limited (in my town), I'll take what I can get. ... so what's exactly offensive about that?

Yan,
I appreciate your latest comments. The purpose of THIS thread is the new system. All of your concerns for the previous generations need to be taken up directly with Rick. I am sure he will help as best he can.

Yes, it is only a relatively short (calendar) time that I have been interfacing with Rick and Company. 8+ hours a day plus talks over coffee, lunch, etc. I am willing to bet a nickle that I have more face time and interface time than most anyone else on this board.

And, I did not mention any names in my rant. Just a general rant on "how he should do it differently". Don't take it personal, it just frustrating trying to provide accurate information and then the Monday Morning Arm Chair Quarterbacks come out and start complaining about how it is made. I realize this is the world of the Internet but, really...

It is what it is. Functional and straight foward. The best part of the kit is the Sprintex blower. If you actually compare performance curves of this SC vs, say, Eaton, you will see it produces boost much quickly which translates into a direct kick in the behind.

10 years ago, when I built my 97, I looked into attempting to build a JY blower setup around the Eaton found on Thunderbirds, etal, and decided that the difficulties outweighed the benefits. If, by the odd chance that I get a Tax return next year like I did this year then maybe I can swing one of these.

I don't think there's anything wrong posting pics of Rick's other systems in this thread.
If anything it adds to his resume. He's been working around 4.0Ls for quite some time; people should know that he's no amateur.

So when are you guys going to have that AEM ECU extension harness ready?

As Rick just took the first order for a system, I think it will be VERY shortly. It was my plan to do this as I sort of like the idea of full plug and play plus the ability to revert to stock at any time you like.

There is an update as of this afternoon. It is Rick's opinion that we need to add an idler pulley between the PS pump and the blower to get a better wrap on the blower pulley. He is suspecting some minor slippage and really wants this system to be totally bullet proof. Another development is that the main man from Sprintex is coming over and I will get to do a M&G plus get any info I can out of him...
