Big Thumbs up to Phil, Thanks

The Front driver corner is messed up. Drivers door won't close. One wheel broke. The bolts that hold on the front Tow hook brackets shreaded. Back bumper was also contacted and cracked up. Waiting for an adjuster to determine if it is fixable. Pends on how bad the unibody is messed up. I am going to give him a ring tomorrow.

if the door won't close...tell him to start shopping. He needs to go to Kelly blue book, nada blue book and Edmunds.com to determine the RETAIL value of his rig by averageing things together, and then hold his ground with the Ins. Co.

It is a 01 so I wouldn't write it off YET. Blue Book value around $10,000. Most insurance companies total at 66%(unless it is a lease, then 50%). So as long as it can be fixed for less then $6,666 it won't total. I can do quite a bit of work for $6K. :)

If the door won't close then I would GUESS that the hinge pillar is twisted back and over engaging the latch.

It is a tough call with out pics.

By the way what Ins. Co?

i don't doubt that Hans. I could do alot for 6K too.

I bet the estimate comes in at over 7k from a body shop doing it for the insurance company.

Just a gut hunch...if we had pics I could tell you in less than 5 minutes. :D

That is because of those Commission Auto Recycling Salesmen jacking up the prices. ;) Just Kidding :) I really love you guys :kissyou:

Actually the real question is: air bag deployment? If there is, 90% chance of a total.

I just did a quick estimate on the Mitchell system, with hood, fender, door, bumper system, All the cooling, Apron, Upper and lower rails, plus all the moldings, flare, and all labor(50/hr) included came to $8K, but only at 66% ACV, With all OEM parts

So it is border line to say the least,

Hans

Pray, why is that? I'm asking out of interest - I'm not likely to own a vehicle with airbags, and unless they have some serious engineering revisions, FMVSS sez I can have them deactivated, as I recall (I'm over 6' and over 200#, my wife is under 5'4"...)

5-90

5-90: Because air bag systems are VERY expensive. Just a basic 2nd generation dual bag system cost between $1500 to 3000? to replace. That is why there is a huge black market for them.

I LOVE MITCHELL. It is the only way to go :) Even a customer can read a Mitchell Estimate.

Red: what do you guys do with your undeployed air bags? Donated to Tech schools? We should get together and deploy a few :). FUN. I would LOVE to do an IN-CAR deployment, haven't had the pleasure yet.

Hans

Okay, so HOW did this thread get so twisted around???

Very thoughtful and a GREAT idea, Phil! Hans was drooling over these lights at NWFest...Matt was still washing out the drool until he drove it into the DRINK at Evans... But I digress...

Thanks Hans for an incredible job putting up with us and Phil - Thanks in advance, too!

Dang, slow down.

The Jeep is sitting at my Dad's Clinic in Oly.

I didn't see the airbag.

Brian is familiar with the value. Allstate is the insurance company.

The shop it's going to has a reputation for quality over quantity. Won't be cheap. But will be done right. Possibly with some aftermarket changes.
