Big Bear - July 20th thru 22nd

Have you been to Gold Mountain lately? I led a group of 8 through there memorial day weekend. All of the stockers (TJ,Unlimited, and a built CJ-7 but he was an idiot) either broke or turned around. If you are low and dont have rocker protection you WILL take damage.

We did gold mountain as a "warm up" trail on the way to JB. It took us 4 hours just to get through GM with the traffic and carnage.

Yep, just a couple of months ago. Nice trail, nto as easy as it used to be, but not too difficult either.

Like Dan said, a STOCK Suburban packed full made it through!

When were you up there? Over the past few weeks there was Forest Fest and Jeepers Jamboree. Both of these events brings a couple of hundresd rigs to Big Bear.

I know there are some lines that a stocker can't make without damage. If someone goes on this trail with us and decides to turn around, that is up to them and no one will mind. The goal is for folks to go and have a good time, learn about their rig, and see the awesome wheeling in Big Bear.

Sorry you guys had some folks with you or in front of you that had issues.

Thanks for the input too!

we got a stock suburban through it with only one hang up, A good spotter and decent driver can get a stock XJ through with out damage

Yeah, but that passenger running board was relocated about 6" higher. :) Amazing considering how little ground clearance that thing had, plus the long wheelbase.

I ran Deep creek on 31s with no problem. How is john bull compared to DC? Im 90% sure ill be there.

If you have rock rails and tow points, then no worries.

I ran it a couple years ago on 31's, no lockers.

Hey gang,

I am planning on doing a run in Big Bear on Saturday, July 21st. I will probably head up Friday afternoon and stay the entire weekend. I will be staying in a cabin with the family and do a little fishing and hiking. I would like to have folks stay the evening for dinner, either in town or maybe even BBQ at the cabin.

As for the run, I have talked to several people and it's possible we will have a nice little crowd. I may need someone to lead another trail.

The purpose for this trip is to allow my wife to finally wheel her TJ! She will be driving, I will be spotting her. We will run Gold Mountain and probably John Bull. It really depends on how comfortable she is. If she is "afraid" of John Bull, I will take her to Jacoby Canyon. I think she will be fine with JB, once we get through the first rock obstacle.

I know alot of folks like running Deep Creek and Holcomb Creek, so I am looking for a leader for that trail. My wife would be OK on Holcomb, but she has seen the pictures of the waterfall on Deep Creek and said she does not want to try that for a while.

So here are the details:

Meet at the Discovery Center at 9:00 AM on Saturday, July 21st. Divid into groups and head out. Meet back at the Discovery Center around 5:00 ish and figure out dinner plans.

This is NOT a sponsored NAXJA event.

Required equipment:
Jack
spare tire
tow points
first aid kit
hard top or roll bar
seat belts

Stock Jeeps CAN run Gold Mountain. Rock rails are not required, but your rockers may get damaged.

For the more difficult runs, the trail leader (whoever that may be) will have the final say.
Usual requirements are at least 31" tires, lift, rock rails, tow points, spare, jack, first aid kit, at least one locker or limited slip, and gas tank skid.

Post up if you are interested!

May try to run something on Sunday AM - Pontiac Sluice or similar...

I go wheeling for a few days and come back to this, great planning guys........Santa

No sweat buddy, just cancel your Calico trip & book in for BB.:laugh3:

And how was Forestfest???

Well I would cancel my trip, but daym how much can one really enjoy the same dirt roads? I mean yeah theres like 7 total spots in BB that actually require anything more then a jeep compass even. And of those I bet I could get a kia through 4 of them, leaving 3 Maybe 4 spots (about 10-50ft ea) of actual concern while driving. And of those any front locked XJ with a semi agressive tire and about 3" lift can make it through. Yeah maybe with some agressive driving, but anyways.

Yes its fun and cooler. But its just getting old to me. Sure would liek to see JV or calico sooner then later. The wife is prego and that means around dec, life as I know it ends for a yr.

Hope you all have a awesome time! I know I will also.

Well hope Aleece and I can make it. Count me in for that Cabin Robert. I talked to Jordan, I think her name was. Its a $50 dollar deposit. Hope to see everyone up there. The JEEP should be put back together by then.

Thanks

Yes, Jordan is helping me get the cabin thing organized.

If you are interested in staying at the cabin, please PM me for details and arrange deposit. Deposit will be applied to rental. Looking at $50 for deposit. If things go as well as they look, then that may be all that is required!

OK gang,

it's looking great!

I need to know if you want to stay in the cabin. I am trying to get a head count together by tomorrow.

As for the day run and BBQ for Saturday, I have a count of about 15 rigs, from here and other groups...

It going to be a great weekend!

Also, if you are interested in running soemthing Sunday, let me know.

Thanks!

COOL!

Yes, BBQ dinner will be after the run at the cabin listed above.

As for the food, I will try to get details this week. It may just be folks bring a few dollars to help cover the costs...

I figure it's best to meet at the Discovery Center around 5:30 ish and then caravan over to the cabin.

That's right! I will double check the hours for the Discovery Center

Ok, so you have tickets for the 22nd. Come up and wheel on the 21st! Or at least ride with someone. I know it's a lot of work to get that railer queen up the hill.... LOL
