Beware of smog check road blocks!

How in the XXXX is this legal????? I tell you what this is just one more reason to get the hell out of California.

Holy crap that is amazing and leads us one step closer to a nazi state. That sounds unconstitutional, at best. You better have you "papers" with you before you decide to leave your house...

I'd tell them to pound sand, I smog my junk every 2 years. They say its to make sure the smog stations are being accurate and performing good tests so its better for us and the state...I like how they make their own rules and then impose things on citizens like its a favor. "Oh, we're just doing it to make sure the smog stations are doing their job". I'm not against clean water, air, having a clean environment and treading lightly, etc...but I'm against government ass'ing into everything. I'm surprised they don't regulate what light bulbs we can use or how much water our toilets can use..oh wait...

that kind of stuff irritates me. what are the actionable results from this analysis going to do? have yearly smog? smog check built into your car very time you turn it on that sends data back to a master database that runs a flag whether or not you can drive your car and sends you a citation in the mail or something ?

i wish they would do the proper research that shows the marginal effect on the environmnt to keep a used car running even if it emits more than a newer car (recycling is best anyway) than to extract all new raw materials, ship them to plants, and run tons of electricity that is powered by over 80% fossil fuels on average. i feel that if someone did the analysis they would find the effect of keeping a used car running for a 20 year time horizon that only gets 15 mpg and emits over the limit will greatly outweigh the fixed effects of building an entirely new car that gets 50mpg over the same 20yr time horizon since it will still emit to some extent plus the huge fixed emissions associated with the entire process of building a new car will grossly outweigh the marginal emissions from a used car .

Welcome to the political and enviromental correctness of king Obama and California's assembly. Smog check road blocks are just the beginning. Just wait until our ruler gets another four years with his liberal commrads, and enviro buds to finalize our ruin. His current target here is all of our electrical generation which the majority is used in California and Nevada. Your and our utility bills will be going higher along with the cost of fuel, groceries, and............................................................

It is not the people's burden to insure that private companies are doing their job, nor is it the governments.

This kind of shit infuriates me, by heart is pounding...need a break.

The goverment would never fund such research, They want us to buy buy buy, consume more, everyone should be driving a hybird no more than 2 years old. I've seen small trailers set up with opacity meters and cameras in So Cal targeting gross poluters on the on ramps. At the truck scales, often there are blue Dodge Rams with the EPA, they dip test fuel tanks to make sure you aren't running dyed untaxed fuel and opacity testing on commercial trucks. They are always overstaffed, guys sitting in chairs under an ez up canopy. More wasted taxpayer money!! And don't get me started on the tier 3 and interm tier 4 diesels that are being forced upon us :thumbdn: fuel economy down, but it burns sooo clean except when the DPF is doing a burn cycle.

Ben, just relax, take a deep breath and go punch some holes in paper while you can still enjoy what we have left of a second amendment. Just remember, pistol grip OR detachable magazine the choice is yours. Choose both and your a felon.

I guess what bothers me the most about any law, and the one thing I ask my self first before I vote, is this...does this law negatively effect or regulate the average citizen because of a small minority? Its a simple thing to consider when casting a vote "for the good/betterment/safety/fairness of other people". Im all for fairness and the whole 9 yards but not when it negatively impacts other decent citizens.

I did, and its awesome! :looser:

What would they do if you said your Jeep was AWD, and couldnt be put on the rollers? And can you still do "oversized" tires in Cali? I know in CO 35'' tires are the max allowed.

You are probably right. There was an article on how operating a Hummer is actually being better for the environment than operating a Prius. Taking in the account all the components, and how one would recycle them...

Yep. From dust to dust (production through recycling and disposal), A Prius will do more damage to the environment in 100,000 miles than an H1 hummer will do in over 200,000 miles. Although I hear Toyota has switched over from nickel metal hydride batteries to lithium ion, so the numbers have likely changed.

What I think is stupid is the government subsidies for ethanol fuel and electric cars. The government pays over $7000 for each chevy volt sold, just so the price is more appealing to the average buyer... But I guess that's kind of getting in to a different subject...

Ah I hate to rain on the "bitch at nothing parade" but if you READ the article it clearly states, "voluntary evaluation brought no consequences". Which means you can absolutely decline to participate. When the Officer asks you to pull to the side into the cones simply and politely ask if he is asking or ordering you to do so. Then simply state you are under the belief that you have a right to decline and then ask him if you may leave. Don't accept any answer other than yes unless he wishes to intiate a full blown traffic stop. Of which he can do. But understand your rights and by all means follow his directions to a "T". When the Officer states you have a right to decline say thank you with a smile and pull away.

Last couple of times I had to get my 88 smogged ("profiled as gross polluter." I thought profiling was illegal?) I told them I'd converted it to AWD, I just didn't update or remark the control bezels.

Got the TSI test.

Sorry, but after having had it gets stalled on the rollers with no load applied, I just can't bring myself to trust those I-D-ten-Ts with my clutch anymore...

You are 100% correct but do you really have no problems with this? Just the thought of this sets off a ton of red flags for me.
