best affordable leafs besides deavers?

I can't believe no one has commented on this..........

My thought Andy is with 10-12" of travel, it likely is not required. None of the Jeepspeed guys run them.

I don't see the problem, why would you need a traction bar? it's not like he's saying get rid of the track bar up front, we're talking rear suspension here Andy :gee:

Grimm,
In the Bronco world, it is fairly common for folks to run a 2 link of some sort....it helps keep the leafs in line but keep in mind we are usually pulling 17-18" of travel out of the leafs.

i can see this happening with lower end leaf setups. I know i get axle wrap sometimes but like tony said, with 10-12 inches of travel on deavers in an xj there shouldn't be any axle wrap..

this ain't bronco world :lecture:

:D

Don't listen to this... A stock pack does TERRIBLE in the rough, and reading this comment just tells me you have NO idea what you're talking about, and that your input should be null and void.

My experience is plenty valid! I do know what I am talking about.
Reread my post! I was surprised by how well they handled in the barstow desert and they worked reasonable well. This is not my first experience with leaf spring trucks.

Old truck with 62" deavers.
With that said I upgraded to deavers on my XJ for the obvious reasons.

First of all, you're not going to convince me of your leaf spring expertise by posting a picture of an S10 with a rusty poorly built "bed cage". First of all, it's an S10, so we KNOW it doesn't handle well, secondly, pictures don't show shit.

You told a guy asking for advice on what springs to run, to run a stock pack with a longer shackle. I stick by my statement, it's a terrible idea, and not to do it. You're going to buck like crazy and go HEAVY into negative arch. Furthermore, good luck not breaking something in the meantime. As for your last comment, I could have fun in the desert on a big wheel tricycle if I had one, let alone a bone stock XJ. You put me in the desert and I can have fun regardless of what I'm in, it doesn't mean I'll be going fast. Leaf springs are actually a very simple thing to understand, most people just don't want to spend the money on them.

LOLOLOLOL. well said Jim.

I bet it does some nasty donuts though?

I think it also depends on the weight and length spring. Becuase we can't have a very long spring we are forced to get a very well put together pack for our xj's.

I put a bastard 58.5" f150 pack in my yota prerunner w/ a couple random leafs from a national pack and stock yota pack and it does great w/ a 12" giant shackle. I don't think i could pull that off w/ the xj.

Heres a pic of me yesterday at my local short course track w/ the bastard pack, bastard pack landed great.
