PS: Make sure that the strap doesn't have metal ends/hooks.

Me too! I refuse to use a strap with metal hooks. Then again, I only have 3"x30' 30,000lb recovery straps...

the metal hooks are dangerous, if the strap breaks the hood goes flying, not good for whoever is in its path:skull2:

No I really wasn't kidding. Is there anyway to take the hooks off? I really dont want to make her feel stupid. Can I use the loop in the strap around my tow hooks or something instead of the hooks on the strap.

you could always keep it if you just need to tow someone in the snow or something, theyre easier to hook up to cars/whatnot. Thats just what I would do to keep her from feeling stupid, and then just get the correct recovery strap for gettin people unstuck.

Yes, return for the correct thing. Print this out to make her feel better. Probably 95% of the people driving jeeps out there would not know the difference between a tow strap and a recovery strap ( a tow strap has no give to it, a recovery strap will stretch some as you apply power and then sort of help sling shot the stuck rig out). Ditto, you should only have loops at the end, not hooks. The reason you are returning it is to be safer and live longer. She need not feel stupid, that is what this forum is for - to learn before making deadly errors. PePe Le Pew

No way. I'd rather have to spend a few minutes extra hooking it up than have something fail.

Search for a few. I own a pair of each of Warn's 3"x30' (Part #29899) and Procomp's 3" x 30' Recovery strap (Part #[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]330000) Both are good straps that I've never had an issue with.

You could always cut the hooks off. A good stout bandsaw would do the trick!

and on that note, good job getting the girl in on it. I've gotten my wife into it and she finally got her lifted XJ. She's happy as hell, and can't wait to get her out on the trail!

Yup.

A strap with no hooks.

There is always a place to loop it.

I have been there, blowing snow, cold, wet, I know its a pain.... but responsability is not always easy.

Well I dunno it worked for me when I needed it to, and I'm definately not recommending using it for someone that is STUCK. I just used it to TOW a fullsize chevy van up a hill that couldnt get any traction. He wasn't stuck in a snowbank or ditch or anything, I was just TOWING him up a hill in about a foot of snow. It did however end up breaking on me when I got really stuck once. It was all we had and I would say I'm lucky that the hooks just stayed where we mounted em, so I learned the hard way to get a real RECOVERY strap.

I've got the 2"x25' version...haven't had the chance to use it yet, but seems robust...I like the fact that it is open-ended...so you can loop it around hooks, frame, etc.
