Got a 8.8 and Dana 30. Both have stock shafts. 8.8 had factory limited slip, which is almost useless on the rocks. Dana 30 is open. Should I Aussie the front or rear? If I do the front it'll have to pull me up spots where the rear fails putting more stress on those shafts or Aussie the rear making in fail safe! I have 35's btw

It HAS a limited slip. Not HAD. My bad

how are the clutches in the LS? If going full locker in just one w/ stock shafts in both on 35's i'd go rear. You might be ok up locked up front w/ abs shafts, ears tack welded to the u-joint caps and a light foot...but i hate driving light footed.

Front locker gives great traction in the rocks, and with all the engine and tranny mass up front, you will do great. Bring a spare shaft or two, and just go for it... Then, for the ultimate, put a Detroit Locker in the back, and hit the Rubicon Trail !!! Put the Aussie up front now, and you will be shocked how great it wheels. Any rig with a LS in the back and an Aussie in the front is a beast, and it should wheel like a Sherman Tank.

i have no idea how sean still runs stock uppers.
anyway lock the front. the extra traction means less wheel spin and easier to get up some of the steep, slick, gnarly stuff. ABS shafts are massive so mike is right on there, id do that. do a HD cover, a truss, and call it good until you can gusset the knuckles and cryo the ring and pinion.....

I found that not using the LS additive helped my 8.8 lock up a little better
Running an aussie up front, with ls in the rear. It works for me

How much r ABS shafts? That sounds like a good idea. The friction plates are good BTW.

go to pnp and grab some. like 40$ each there i think or less. the jeeps with ABS have massive ears and are way beefier around the ears. i have a set I'm about to install on my 2 door tan jeep.

i don't think its a good idea to run an aussie w/ a stock 30 on 35's and that 300lbs of texas you have up front. I really don't wanna give out advice thats just gonna clog up the trailhead w/ breakages, then i'm gonna have to get off my lazy ass and help. If you do, practice replacing shafts in your garage so you can be quick on the trail.

aussie locker - 250
ABS shafts from pnp -80$-carry stock shafts as spares
HD ruffstuff d30 cover -100$
make a truss - 30-50$ in scrap steel

although changing a front shaft on a 30 with unit bearings is pretty easy on flat ground...

oh and if you wheel like mike its a bad idea

Hahaha, mike Ur retarded. Jon, I'm retarded too cuz this jeep came with abs and the abs shafts. I have a cover too. Sooo just truss? Then chromos in the future.

hey mike, since you seem to be the only one with an opposing argument here how do you feel about 33's and a lockrite on a 4.56 non vac hp30?
upgraded ujoints and ball joints. sorry for thread jacking but I plan on running something similar to the OP^^
thanks

Its all relative, but you should be ok w/ 33's if your fairly easy on the throttle while turning in 4low.

dude my chromos look tiny compared to my ABS shafts -so much bigger I've considered selling the chromes and running the ABS shafts . I've had them side by side before. i know chromos are supposed to be stronger for a given fixed diameter, but the ABS shafts being so much bigger makes me wonder if the ABS are plenty strong. build a truss and some lcd skids- cheap and easy. it'll be pretty strong at that point- at least you're better off than not being there. . still carry spares. crazy wheeling will result in breakage if you try hard enough, open or locked.

i used pnp years ago to learn how to pull apart a dana 30 when i was young and afraid to pull mine apart for the first time. just an idea. esp if you plan on pulling some abs shafts at pnp

I've pulled my front shafts out a few times. Practice makes perfect but what I'm Wonderin is about the inner shafts. They aren't that strong. Lcd skids?
