i'm window shopping for a locker and i've sort of narrowed it down to these two although for the price i have sort of been contemplating the Zip Locker from Yukon.

opinions?

Detroit.... Works everytime all the time.

is it selectable?

do they make the ECTED or is that another manufacturer

If you get ECTEDs you WILL regret it and you will end up pulling them to swap to something else (BTW those are made by Auburn, Eaton makes the Electrac). Ask me or anybody that wheeled with me and my ranger when it had them, they suck. Nothing but problems out of them and I would never recommend them. ECTEDs are not lockers, Im serious. They go from a limited slip to a somewhat tight limited slip... They only get tighter when engaged, and sometimes the clutch pack would get cocked sideways and not do anything when engaged, and other times it would jam when turned off and make it super hard to drive. I went to ARBs and had a lot better luck, but every now and then they leak air. However, OX lockers have their issues too. I have seen cables bind and break, as well as bent shift forks. So... basically pick your poison. Personally if I had to get a selectable, I would get the ARB, but betty got Detroits front and rear because like David said... they just work. They are super reliable and the new softlocker design is way more tolerable on the street than the older ones.

If I had the cash, I would go Eaton E-Lockers.

I run lock rights simply because when something breaks its the cheapest to fix. :)

I actually have detroits front and rear now.

The only complaint I have is the fact that when I put mine in park and let off the brakes it may or may not roll another 6inchs forward or backwards. It may just be the play in the locker or something is just wrong with it. Regardless, it locks all the time everytime.

ok how about some pro's and cons for the eaton and has anyone heard good or bad about the zip locker or is it too new

and what are you talking about with the detroit where it will move an extra 6 inches?

is it like the slop in the lunchbox lockers?

I've heard the zip lockers are backwards to how an arb works. An arb uses compressed air to unlock. Where as the zip lockers use the air to unlock which apeals to comp guys if they loose an air line or something then its still locked instead of unlocked(arb)

Could be wrong but that's what I've heard. If I was going selectable I'd go arb.

My detroit does the moveing 6inchs. It only does it on a slight hill. The locker just disengages and it rolls just a little bit. No bigger for such a good working stong locker.

It has really good road manners in the rear. Don't really notice it till you get on it through a turn.

Ox has that cable coming out of the shovel, as long as u account for that an protect it they are great. Tyler is correct ecteds blow. Detroits are nice, they are what I might be running. Yukons come out with some new stuff, they have some good warranties, dont know how good they are.

That's why it breaks...it's cheap.

Wrong never broken one. D35, D30, D44, and now D60. Only thing I ever broke was the shear pins in the D30 once.

High2by has broken several alloy front and rear axle shafts (Superior and AlloyUSA) and his Aussies have held up just fine.

Not really experienced in selectables but I do know every rig I've ever gotten in with an ox locker I couldn't shift it at all they were always seized up

Well, as for shafts and such.... several D30's, D44 inner, and the D35. :D

I have had arb's in an old rig and loved them. Had a couple air leaks but they were super easy to fix. That rig had a manual transmission. The rig after that one had a manual transmisson and detroits. I hated driving on the street with it! It would unload unexpectedly and had bad torque steer. My rig now has an auto trans with detroits and I don't even notice it driving on the street. Offroad you can't beat a detroit.

I don't have a recommendation on a selectable locker, but I do have a recommendations.

If you buy a selectable locker, pay an authorized installer to install it. I've seen a handful of ARB's and OX's destroyed from bad installs.
