So long story short, toyota forums lied to me and doing the rear wheel bearings on a 97 AWD rav4 is anything but trivial unless you have a shop press. I don't have a shop press. Anyone got one that I can borrow 5 minutes of time on?

I'm in Grantham NH until I get this damn thing done... can come to you as long as it's not more than 30 miles or so.

I have one

Newark DE is a really strange name for a town in NH/VT :spin1:

Hey do u need the 231 still

Press?! I fully expected Ken to just hit it together with a sledge hammer. You're slacking dude.

Just go find a local garage or machine shop and ask them to do it real quick. Hell, they probably won't even charge you if its just a 5sec thing

That's the plan. It's a wheel bearing assembly, so I don't want to just hit it with things because the whole point is to have new (round) wheel bearings in there when I'm done. Because of how awkwardly it's shaped (damn you toyota for trapping the brake backing plate between the wheel flange and the unit bearing mounting flange... that was really nice) I can't use the vise I brought with me, like I planned to. Last time I did a wheel bearing that needed the hub flange pressed into the unit bearing it went together using a hair dryer, bench vise, and beer fridge, but no vises big enough to fit around this stupid brake backing plate.

Keith, I think I'm all set - there is one waiting for me STILL rattling around in Colin's truck because I haven't been able to pick it up from him yet.

Ended up paying a local shop 80 bucks to butcher it. I hate idiots.

They bent the shit out of the dust shields, used an oxy torch to get the races off, dinged up the hub flanges, and managed to drop one of them on top of the other in the box so it almost tore the seal lip and kinked the seal spring.

Undid all their ****ups and it's back together again...
