Anybody in favor of ected??

I have it in the 8.8 in ther rear of my TJ.

It does NOT slip, its works flawlessly.
This WAS a dd and I really wanted a streatable rear. i was coming from lockrites and EZ lockers and full Detroits in short wheel base vehicles. I did not like the maners of that combonation. the AUBURN was a godsend, awesome traction when locked EXCELLENT on road as a LS.

If you are looking for a strictly offroad diff, I'd likely go OX, Full carrier, Detroit or ARB. IMHO, for or something enjoyable on the road, the electric selectable with the LS is the BEST OF BOTH WORLDS.

You really should do a search, I commented in at least two other threads where members where bashing this quality product from a known supplier!

I am planning on running a E-locker in my D44 rear, I wish they made one for the D30, but maybe this ected will be the ticket for the front.

How much are they going for? $$$

I am running 3.5RE now with 32's, will be 4.5 with 33 and 4.56's

where are the testimonials of people running these? bring on first hand experience not just some mag that has installed one and said they liked it, people that have actually run it long and hard and had sucess.

when i first installed mine i spoke to a few people on pirate 4x4 and they had similar problems (not holding locked) when i first installed mine i had 33's and 4.56 gears and it made violent poping (sliping) onroad when locked. never could really tell on the trail as untill recently always held enough traction to keep both tires spinning maby it's worn maby its a defect but now i can lock it and only get one tire to spin when bound up. this is with under 15k on it. i run new england trails which go from mud to rock and everythign inbetween i'm far from easy on my rig but i can't see this locker holding to the traction the guys out west get with rocks, with the traction of sand paper. if anything auburn should change there add to say adjustable lsd instead of locker. if its a locking differential your looking for look elseware.

I have had mine in the 8.8 in back of my TJ for almost two years, with ZERO problems. Well I do have a problem remembering to turn it on!

I am locked front abd back and only realize I forgotten to lock the back if the trail gets really technical. The L.S. in this unit combined with the uber flex of my TJ, not to mention the front AUSSIE, makes most obsticals fairly easy.

I remember one time on a very steep shelf I was climbing (About 4', 90 degrees vertical) I got the rear to pop once. But that was right after turning on the unit because I was not able to make it up and realized I had not engaged the rear. I switched it on, realigned myself to the obstical. As my tars searched for traction, the ECTED made that pop. I made it up and over fairly easily.

When I got home I pulled the cover and found NOTHING, so I changed the fluid !

I have engaged it on the street and it locks right up and funtions as a spool, chirping/squealing tars in every corner. I would put another in my HI-Pinion
D30 I'm building for it if they made one!!!

I am currently running BFG 33" MT's

It sounds like this guy was happy in the end.

Yeah, I've only seen one person every complain about the ected. He's been complaining about it forever, but I'd bet a six pack of good beer he hasnt contacted Auburn about it yet.

I don't understand this pair of statements. If it works flawlessly, and does not slip, why are you recommending other products for an "offroad" rig? It would seem, by your statement above, that this diff would be just as good as the others off-road?

It IS as good, I was just saying my reason for the purchase was because of the really nice road manners and the LS it has when "off". I made the purchase when it was a DD. I had a lock rite in my 8.8 and hated it on the road!
I really couldn't care less for the LS, IF it was bought for strictly off road purposes. Likely I would have gone FULL Detroit in the rear and ARB/OX out front OR ARB/OX all around.

Sorry for the animosity of my previous statemants.
I have been more than satisfied with this unit, where the circumstances sorounding the purchase the same, I would do it all over again!

Call 4wheelersupply.com, tell them you want an Ected at the SoCalXJ price. $540 to your doorstep. I was hoping for better, but demand is high.

so, I have a XJ d44 in the garage, is it a 30 spline? If so, Randy's has an E-locker.

does my 97 XJ have a D30hp 27 spline in front, if so, they make an ected for the front.

This sounds like the ticket for me! (if I have the above correct!)

just pulled mine out today to send back for warranty work. i was tore it all down to check out the internals and how it all worked. there seem to be a few shims between the ballramp and the electromagnet the would set preload on the clutch pack side and also effect how much the ball ramps have to move to compress the clutch packs. my first impressions are that it lends itself to non operation after wear. the thrust block which transfers pressure from the ball rams to the clutch pack begins to hit the crosspin, hold in bolt. there seem to be a few shims between the ballramp and the electromagnet the would set preload on the clutch pack side and also effect how much the ball ramps have to move to compress the clutch packs. i almost missed the ball ramps at first glance because the incline is so neglegeable around .003 from bottom of ramp to top. another thing i noticed was that spline engagment on the ball ramp side gear wis significantly less than that of the clutch pack side gear making that side weaker
soo my ected is going back to auburn tomorrow and i'll report back when i get it back as to the cause of the prob and/or if it fixes my issues.

I'm curiouse to find out how that turns out. Your the only person I have seen complain of problems with one, and those problems go back more than a year and a half (reading posts on pirate..). Did they give you any hassle about the warantee?

For those of you that are interested, if you call 4wheelersupply.com and ask for the SoCalXJ price on an ected, $540 to your doorstep.

just got off the phone with auburn my unit is all set and is coming back to me shortly. i was only able to talk to the secratary but she said it was re shimed and should be all set to come back. i will thalk to the engineer/tech there and try to get a little better description of what went on. hopefully i'll have it back and it will work perfect:).
i have to say auburn has be great with cust. service and turned it around in about 3 days with no hitches or expences except the shipping to them.
i'll fill ya all in when i get it re-installed.

I'm glad to hear they stood by it. Certainly let me know how it goes.. I'm very curiouse. :)

How did the locker turn out? Is the problem fixed?

From what I have read, thats not really a problem. Its a light bias limited slip when unlocked, and fairly low wear.
