explain to the class how all of the current proposed bans on high capacity magazines and rifles would have prevented a single gunshot wound to the head?

I could whip up a 12ga zip gun in about 30 minutes that could have murdered that guy.

so, back to the topic at hand, how do you propose to stop gun violence with laws that don't regulate the firearms most often used in homicide?

You think I haven't? I contact my congressional reps nearly daily, I vote Libertarian, I encourage others to do the same that we may change the politics in this country from a 2 party system. You make a lot of assumptions about me with that statement.

Actually, quite a few Canadian police departments would disagree with that claim; unfortunately we voted (myself included) for a government modelling themselves too much after the US system. I won't be voting conservative again.
Disagree or not, the statistics your own registry people compiled showed less than a 50% participation rate. I imagine it would be much lower in the U.S.

Safe is a relative term.... it depends on the owner (that includes guns, cars, anything really). I never wanted to ban guns, I wanted to see a better gun owner.

They're starting to use 3D printers to make replacement organs for humans, so I think it's safe to assume we'll see gun parts in the not too distant future, and guns within decades.

You're out of your mind, gun designs are copied with slight modifications all the time.
There are no truly new features.
3d printers would be a copyright/patent issue anyway, not something the NRA would ever become involved in.
That's like saying that Ford would start suing everyone that built their own motor.
