another fire

Just FYI...... Police/Fire cannot make you leave. It's not against any law to stay. Unless you're obstructing fire fighting operations intentionally..... you have every right to stay to try to protect your house/property. You just can't expect them to come save your keester if you don't leave when they say you should.

Its probably too laie to do any of you much good now but check into a product called "Barracade". It was developed to protect structures against wildland fires.

I don't if that was meant for me Troy but I didn't mean to sound like I'd be foolish enough to stay. I certainly would NOT opt to stay with my garden hose and try to fight a fire that experts are having difficulty getting under control with proper equipment. With the road closure situation as it is, I just prefer to stay here until that time comes.

Larimer County has a posting up on their site that says they can force you and they refer to some earlier court rulings or some such crap. I will see if I can get the link.

I know when the fire was within a 1/4 mile of my house, our choice was either get arrested or evacuate. One way or another they made us leave. I took back rds to a buddys house and we hid inside and watched the flames dance in his back yard hitting his sprinklers :)

Here we go. It moved quite a bit towards us last night and it's right over the ridge.

Chris -- did you just get home from the 67/Trout Creek evac? Are you in the new voluntary pre-evac area just announced this afternoon? Let us know down here if you need anything -- its harder to get to you than it was, but we'll do what we can. For what its worth, a friend who lives up there told me the closed Mt. Herman road last night, so that route is now out too...

We were not part of the TC evac. I am on the eastern side of town that backs right up to the ridge that Rampart Range Road runs along. My neighborhood has been on Pre-Evac since Sunday now. I wasn't too worried until I saw that it advanced pretty far towards the reservoir last night. We're kinda fawked because our only option to leave will be to head out 24 or take 67 up to 285 and then loop around to somewhere.

I misunderstood -- I though you said your wife had met you on the road with all your stuff fleeing the TC/67 fire a couple days ago... sucks man, hope you've got your BOB ready to go!

No I was out on a 3 day ride and she got in touch with me on day 2 to tell me things had escalated. We finally ran into each other abotu 15 miles north of WP on 67 just when the TC fire broke out. She was beginning to pack because we were on PE at that time.

We're originally from the midwest so this is all new to us. It's hard not to panic when the news people say, "Don't panic but get your important things together."

We keep a "Bug Out Box" packed and ready at all times (72 hours of food/toiletries, etc.), as well as a backpack with changes of clothes for the family and stuff. Tough not to be a bit nervous when your considering the possibility of fire destroying your stuff, but then again in the end its just stuff. If you've got the people you love ready to move if you have to, that's what is really important -- as they say, if you're prepared, there is no need to panic. Good luck, man, let us know if you need anything, and I'm sure the chapter will find a way to help you out.

so how many fires y'all got there now? we're up to 12 and one is over 40k acres and made a small town disappear. i got friends who have lost alot in that fire.

It varies minute to minute -- there have been over 20 deliberately set (i.e. arson) fires in and around Colorado Springs over the past week, though most were put out before they could "explode". We had three significant fires in El Paso and Teller Counties yesterday alone, although two have been contained. I think there are 5 major out-of-control fires burning in Colorado Right now, including a couple on the west slope...

Getting hot up there today -- we can see flames on the east side of the ridge above Pikeview quarry from downtown Colorado Springs -- a westerly wind right now would blow it directly into seriously densely populated areas...

The view from I25 is amongst the most horrible things I have seen first hand -- the Mountain Shadows subdivision and Rockrimmon appear from the highway to be a couple hundred yards from going up in smoke. Literally 300 foot high wall of flames at least a 1/4 mile long visible from I25 -- amazing there haven't been multiple accidents, as its almost impossible to look away from the carnage. awful.

Scanner is saying that there are now structures on fire in that NW corner of Springs and that crews are pulling out because it is so bad in there.
