Another CL XJ

It was supposed to be a 98 Country w/ 167K w/ a NSS issue("only can start by x-ing starter), and no front brake pads for $800. It turns out to be a 10/96 w/ 165K and the worst rust I have ever seen on an XJ--needless to say it'll be stripped for parts and dragged away cause no way will I sell this disaster waiting to happen. Put the spare on it, used pads and rotor, started right up via key, paid $320 and drove it 45 miles home:

Blegh thats nasty.

holy christ.

and I thought MY rust was bad... that looks like it's about to turn into a 3-link suspension, and probably will fold like a taco right afterwards.

What's it got for good parts?

New starter, new battery, engine, tranny, x-fer case(for bro), 29 spline 8.25"(possible lsd), interior, glass, doors, fenders, a/c, pw/pl, and whatever else not suspension or brake related. I figure one good off-road stint and it would be done for sure.

how do you know it has a 29spl in it? Guessing from the late-96 manufacture date?

I say jump it before parting it out :D

I think you should jump it at at leadst 65 mph...put it out of its misery...while having a rediculous amount of fun...and possibly some back pain.

yeah... this is a Davids Farm type video waiting to happen. I bet it breaks in half.

DAMN! Shoot it and put it out of its misery!

This is what you need to do with that jeep. This is me last year with my $175.00 beater at our local pig roast.:D

Glad you made the trip home safe. Looks like you did one hell of a part out.

I can now say I have completely disassembled an XJ, save for the tranny(built a rear end, built an engine, and installed a SYE). Gonna work on my XJ for the next two weeks and then pickup another CL saver(unlike this destroyer).

What's the story with that MJ? Looks pretty nice minus the missing nose...

That is one XJ I am not sad to see go to the scrapper. Looks only minorly worse than my 96, the floors are about the same, that one has way worse frame issues though. I didn't realize how bad mine really was till I started trying to repair the rust issues a few weeks ago.

That's my brother Nick's 90 pioneer that he's using for his "scca turbo 5.0" build(see info in project section on Jeepstrokers). I dropped off the block, pistons and rods to the machinist a few weeks ago(need to stop in). He's getting married at the end of July and he just spent $2000 getting the NSX back together from the Summit incident(he was taping, so there's nice youtube footage of him punting tires), so this project is not a priority(but I'll put the pressure). It'll start NA and use the renix electronics and once boosted, will use megatunix(since he's a linux geek).
