I'm still seeing LPKs online for stupid prices. That's actually not bad. Nearly pre-panic prices.
You can piece together an LPK from Amazon and Midway for around $80 without a grip. Actually just found a whole LPK for $75 on Amazon. Well, well, well. Good prices are coming back around.

So, the Spike's lower came in last Friday. I swapped over the LPK from the polymer lower. Pretty sure the tolerances are a touch sloppy on the poly unit. The fire control group fit between the walls of the receiver easily in both units, but the aluminum lower was a touch tighter. It feels like the trigger breaks easier now. I wonder if there was a little bit of slop taking up in the poly unit that is gone now.
I can't remember if I made mention here, but I cancelled the order on the piston system. Company just didn't have the reputation I wanted to trust with a very weak return policy. Instead I opted to go with a Spike's M16 BCG and looking into an Adams Arms piston later.
The gas block, tube and handguard cap should all be here tomorrow. I'll post up pics once I get it all put together and "finished" then post update pics when I start upgrading and accessorizing.
If you play Black Ops II, think M27. But in semi auto config

Beware of potential costs, man. I figured out the math the other day (stupid decisions, guy!) and when it's all said and done the way I want, I will have about $1400 into it. That's not mentioning the cheap parts that go on first to make way for the expensive upgrades later. It's fully finished product.
At least the leftovers can be used for later builds
If you wanna gimme a call sometime, we can talk about what you're getting into. It can be done for way cheaper than what I'm doing.

I go back and fourth on either just buying one or building one. the wife knows nothing of these plans she doesn't want me to buy another gun. that has me thinking a slow build would be easy to get away with.

Its easier than saving up the cash for a one-time buy, that's for sure.
Waiting on parts is a drag, though. Buy a part, get excited when it comes in, put it on, be happy for about 2 days then get sad cause you have to save up for the next part...

I have $1050 in mine with the glass. The right parts in the right places, most of it bought with smart shopping during the panic.
Piston systems are a nice novelty for someone who's going to put 5000 rounds downrange in a firefight, but with the amount of shooting the average hobbyist does, not really a reliability upgrade. Plus it seriously limits your handguard and front sight choices.

Tell me about it! I've had to do some high and low searching to find compatible handguards at a decent price. I found a couple rails fairly cheap. The first was about $40 and had the extended top rail to mate with the upper, but it was also a boltless setup that used some set screws in the barrel nut. That didn't thrill me too much. I found another for $80 that's basically the same thing, but is a 2-peice deal that uses the handguard cap and extends to the upper in the same manner with the top rail.

It struck me funny because I stared at backup sights for about 3 months when I was trying to decide what to buy. I still haven't gotten any.
