All Things Guns

thinking about building a 300 blackout.
It's definitely a solid performer for a sub-sonic round. Its easy to make them (provided you can find the projectiles) since the parent case is the .223 and it can be necked out.

I've considered building a .300 upper myself. I don't know if it will ever happen. If I build a .30 cal upper, it may as well get a different lower since it will only be used for hunting.

I'd build a 7.62x39 before I built a .300 blackout. If you're looking for .30 cal bullets with 100-200 yd range, at least the ammo is cheaper.
That is a good idea! That stuff can still be found at our Fleet Farm.

What's needed to run that in an AR? I'm guessing bolt (maybe carrier?), magazines and barrel?

I'm not sure. You would think just a bcg and a barrel, but I saw some posts on google that talk about feed ramps. You might need a whole upper.

Even still, quite a few folks are shooting them and have good luck with them. You definitely need a chrome lined barrel to shoot the surplus stuff.

Go for it.

Yes, you use a standard 5.56 lower and just use a different magazine, barrel, and bolt.

Other than that, all parts are the same.
I'll do some more research and check to see how much water this holds.

Edit: Alright. I'm sold. I will eventually build a x39 AR.

Ammo is more available and inexpensive than any other .30 cal round on the market except maybe the x54 R. And good for 300 yds as per most posts I've found.

Parts aren't exactly available right now, but what parts are?

Barrel & bolt combo...not in stock. The only one that Midway carries, unfortunately. I'd prefer a 20" bbl.

My dad has a krieger barrel that was made a long time ago when it was the 300whisper or 300x221fireball. As fun as it is I would go to the 7.62x39. Not that its not useful but the ease of brass makes a difference, although I am sure 300 blackout brass is obtainable..

300 blackout is opbtained by cutting down 5.56. very easy process.

I know. Been makeing the 300 whisper for years, basically the same thing. But there is more then just cutting it involved. And my vote would go to the 7.62 based on that, that is what I was trying to say

The last few days I've been doing a lot of thinking about that AR47. Since I plan on using it as a deer rifle, it'll get an A2 stock and a free float hand guard. Other than that, it's gonna be pretty plain Jane with the exception of a camo paint or dip job.

So I started thinking, with this as a deer rifle, I won't need my R700 in .243 anymore. Especially since I'm hoping to have that .300Win Mag in a 700. So I thought about selling it off. Then I sold myself my own gun with the logic that Harrison can use it once he starts hunting. Good day.

I've only owned one gun that isn't in my possession anymore, so we don't part ways often.

I sold one once. Then I swore off selling, now I might trade one but that's about it. The wife got me a new safe for Christmas last year and all the spare room has been calling my name

The aforementioned gun was traded to my dad. We swapped shotguns, my 20ga single shot for his Mossberg 500 12ga. It was all so he could trade the single shot towards an 1187 and the single shot went to a little girl for her first gun. I'm totally alright with that. Couldn't have had a better reason to let it go.

I should see if I can get it back so I can give it to my kid.

If anyone knows where to find a stock Marlin straight lever (just the lever) for a 336, I would appreciate it. The only ones I can find are $125 aftermarket ones.

If you have time to finsh one you might look and see if gunstocksinc.com has one. I replaced the stock on an old shotgun I inherited with inletted unfinished stocks from them and was very happy with them.

I've got a scope I'd like to get rid of. Unsure of brand as it came with a rifle I bought. Is a 4-12x40, 1/4" on 100 yrds adjustments, distinct clicks, will include rings and scope end caps. Asking $50 and will ship on buyers dime. Located in west centeral IN near the Badlands.

You know you didn't have to take the action out of the stock to remove the scope, right? :D

Seriously though, what are you doing to it?

Damn wish I would have known that before hand! :looney:

Was adjusting the trigger pull. On the standard X mark trigger you must remove the stock to do this. Also just wanted to tear it down and make sure everything was well lubed and clean.

I started to do a little research on the factory triggers. The X-Mark has a better reputation than the X-Mark Pro. There are ways to adjust the base model trigger that I have, but I'm going to forgo that option since the kid will use it someday. It's not gonna be a long range target rifle, it doesn't need a 3# pull. Putting on a Timney wouldn't be worth it for it's job.

As long as that thing is gonna stay the way it is, I don't need to put any more money into it.

I have no experience with the x mark pro but the standard x mark is a decent trigger for a factory piece. It will eventually get replaced but for now I wanted to get the pull down. I currently do not have a pull gauge but I believe a buddy does so not exactly certain what it is now, much nicer though.

I know what stock I'd like to use, but I can't find the lever to go with it. Mine has a pistol grip lever and I need a straight one.
