All Things Guns

I thought you could cross drill and pin it on. As long as it's not easliy removed.

The pin has to be permanent. Like grind it out because it's welded permanent.

Or you need a SBR stamp.

Mine has a 16" barrel with a flash hider on the end. I don't think it's worth the trouble to make it 1.5" shorter.

My work weapon is a M4 carbine. You can stick my AR next to it and I don't think there's any advantage or disadvantage at all. Maybe other people just like saying they have the shortest weapon possible.

And we're all kidding ourselves if we really think we're getting ready for house to house, door kicking CQB :looney:

Josh, is your M4 a 14.5" barrel with an A2 birdcage?

I think you have a good point on the 1.5"... I'm not as worried about CQB as I am the appearance. It just looks disproportional to me. Probably not enough of a quark to actually worry about it.

I went the other way, I put a 13" handguard on a 16" barrel. Hid the gas block in the forearm.

The USMC M4 is a standard issue carbine. 14.5" with a A2 hider, ACOG on top and a collapsible stock. I've never had the opportunity to do much more than clean it, so I couldn't tell you if the flash hider was pinned or not. I think the gov't models are not pinned so you can replace the hider.

ACOG's are nice, too bad I can't afford one like the gov't can.

That's the truth! I'd love to have an ACOG. Trijicon makes some really sweet optics. I don't think I will ever own one. Unless it's night sights on a 1911 or something.

I doubt the A2 hider is pinned. I would bet government doesn't have to worry about SBR laws.

Got the AR out to the range today. Those plastic Magpul sights bring the suck. The pins walk out. No big deal, just a little incentive to buy at least a reflex. I didn't find out where it's hitting and didn't bother with sighting it in. Maybe next time. I was just too tickled to get to shoot it.

The only thing that went wrong was with the trigger. After about 75rds or so, the trigger wasn't resetting after firing. I figure the disconnect needs a little polishing or lube...or maybe the trigger pin needs to be lubed a touch. It started functioning fine again during the last mag so...whatever.

CLP is your friend. It doesn't need a lot, but it sounds like your trigger group is dry.

I was very impressed with my primary arms scope. Fantastic customer service. Maybe you can find something you like there. I have the 1-4 scope with the Burris PEPR mount.

Their red dots are popular for us cheap bastards.

Thanks! Good info to have. On both accounts.

Would you say the primary arms is better than say this?

This is what I've been planning on, but I'm not at all set in stone about how I want to do this.

The nice thing about primary arms is he's huge on service. Spends a lot of time on arf.com. It's still stuff made in china, but if it goes wrong, you can get warranty work without the hassle.

I was impressed enough with other people's stories that I gave it a whirl. The glass is as nice as I've looked through. I ordered at 930 on a Thursday morning, got a shipping confirmation 10 minutes later and it showed up at my house on Tuesday.

I love my Primary Arms red dot. It isn't quite tier 1, but I've got over 1000 rds through my 11.5" AR with it, and it works like new. I needed new shorter screws to mount mine, I called up the owner, and had new mounting screws for free two days later. Mine is an older AA battery sight, and it will go 3 months on a rechargeable battery.
I would highly recommend anything from Primary Arms.

Having two reliable, personally-known people giving me a good review on their products and services really works in their favor. I think you two sold me on Primary Arms.

If they had a referral program, I'd be name dropping.

A friend might be taking a job where occasionally he might have to use a gun (wildlife stuff at JFK). Asked me to give him a crash course on them (he has fired a shotgun, but that might be it). Taking him to the range on Saturday to show him basics on my 10/22 and shotgun.

I'm not sure where to go with this.

I really hope your friend considers some professional training prior to applying for or obtaining a job that involves firearms. Something tells me this isnt the answer.

I am going to show him what I show Sarah when I shoot, basic safety of shooting to familiarize him of firearms (four rules of shooting and aiming). I would hope if any job he takes would provide him specific training.

I love my 10/22, I put the scope on it in place of the red dot and it was still pretty much sighted in. Might try some long range stuff, the stock isn't the best for that, but I will either deal with it or buy a wood stock off ebay. It did come with a wood stock, but a guy wanted to trade me straight up for a ATI stock.
