Aetna Mtn Thread

It is very unfortunate.
The developers will eventually dangle money in front the right government official, or claim that the increased property tax revenue is worth trampling on one man's rights to access his own land.

And it will be gone...
 
wonder if this has anything to do with the recent airlift of an idiot on a quad trying to go down the "wall" recently...

i bet they lay in wait for something big to happen and then jump on it and use it against us...
 
how can they state its a public road (even in their sign) and restrict use by the public because they want to "improve" it. and after they "improve" it, close the public road to private use... doesnt make any sense. if they were smart, they would have made an alternate road to access the mtn, the road, and the property on top, out of their way so everyone could still access the public road, (hence no legal issue) and prolly would have cost them less than all the legal battles they are trying to get through...

plus i dont understand how they could build on the property and change the road layout without authority from the county like was said previously while there was still litigation in the court...

if they would have put in a big gravel parking lot next to the interstate out of the view and way of their neighborhood with access to the road around the back side they would have prolly been heroes, saved money in litigation, and made their landowners happy because all the trucks wouldnt be going through their neighborhood.
 
Had something similar happen around here in NE ATL. The place we would go out to in HS was to our best knowledge county property and a road ran through it, though not really maintained, still visible on google maps. We never really caused much trouble. But there were those that would. And slowly it got alot harder to get there and we finally stopped going. Or left, I can't remember. But I was out driving the other day since it was nice, in the jeep, and figured i'd drive by and see what happened to it. Its a county park now. I was blown away. They've also developed a sub division, that the bank owns now, that kinda gets there, so I drove in and talked to some guys working there and they said its patrol'd pretty heavily. It looks like there is mtn biking and equestrian trails running all through out it now. I'm gonna go hike it and check it out for some memories since I can't take the Jeep there.

Hopefully Aetna won't suffer the same fate. Only takes a couple folks unfortunately. Not to mention gov. is corruption. But thats a different post.

Safety. Even though it may be public if it is a danger to the public they can restrict access to it I believe. What was that trail out west that was closed several years ago? It is still closed to my knowledge. It was a public road dating back to around the gold rush days. Mines were at the top but every time a bad storm came around it got destroyed. EVentually even the land owners were banned from using it IIRC.
 
Silly that Big Brother sees fit to protect us. Let the idiots die of their own stupidty, if you can't wheel and not die...so be it.

If I ever get out of school this will be something I will be fighting for...given business at home is good lol which it will be

Land rights are something that seems to be getting stripped away slowly, along with personal choice. If I'm conducting myself in a manner that could harm someone then yes I deserve to be stopped, but if I choose not to wear my seatbelt or choose to put myself in harms way without allowing anyone else to be put in danger then it is my choice to do it. The deranged ideology that lawmakers have is absolutely astonishing to me, the belief that to protect the people we must first make them protect themselves is asinine.

As the government grows bigger we, undeniably, will see more and more issues arise. These issues will not just be for land use, but will soon be for all aspects of life, the right to protect ourselves, the right to choose what we spend our money on, the right to use public lands, the choice to not have health insurance if we see fit....


Sorry about the rant, just vary passionate about some things....

and hope that no matter what a persons views are they get involved, it seems as if the people no longer have a voice and politicians just make decisions based upon their own personal interests.....

i heard recently that when the sign went into effect they had cops out there not letting people unload their vehicles. BUT as recent as memorial day weekend some people that didnt unload there but just driving through with their vehicles were allowed to pass through.

basically they dont want you parking there and leaving trails and tow rigs around... but you can still pass through the neighborhood to get up the mountain...

this may change and may not be completely acurate. third party hear-say...

but i plan on trying it this saturday for a test run with my jeep... ill post up what i find out.
