Strengthen the steering system...

I have a C-Rok Brace (inner/outer) and Rugged Ridge Heavy Duty Steering Box Brace. My "unibody" where the Steering box mounts is all ****ed up.

Either go with a full stiffener set, or do what I did... I'm close to junking my jeep and swapping parts so I don't have a ****ed up unibody creaking and cracking all day long.

yeah i think im going steering first then HD unibody stiffeners. just cant make up my mind about steering! :dunno:

4 bolt inner box brace, the across frame front brace, the outer brace, and get a ZJ v8 tie rod and flip it over the knuckle, cut off your sway bar mounts, good trackbar (i like the RE HD since you can buy the trackbarbar mount cross brace, which i have and love)

get good shocks, and make sure youre control arm joints/bushings are all good and your steering should be pretty good after that. you could probably do all of the above much cheaper than doing just the currie steeringsetup. then use the money you saved to buy stiffeners .

with the cross frame box brace, cross frame trackbar brace, and stiffeners, your steering will greatly improve.

i already have a v8 ZJ tie rod. just somr of the joints are gone. i wanted to upgrade my steering mainly because i got bigger tires. amd cuz it doesnt hurt to have a good strong set up. i think i am back to making my own. my dad made the steering for his bronco a while back it ot was great so hes gunna help me out with that. will be definitley cheaper than curries and a good learning experiance.

i also already have an adjustable trac bar..not sure of the brand, looks cheapy to me but hey, i guess its better than stock.

my shocks are also in good shape. control arm bushings...not so much. but as long as i keep those bolts tight i think itll be okay. i dont really wanna spend the time or money to fix my short arms when i have long arms sitting in the garage waiting to go on

yah DOM and heims, 3/4" bolts and weld in threaded bungs can be done for around 200$ or more from ruffstuff.

id say 3/4" is plenty strong for steering, but bigger is always better. I personally wouldnt bother with 7/8 on a dana with anything less than 37s. Maybe a dana 60 on 42s

good to know. 3/4 it is

Im using 3/4" heims with a 5/8" bolt. Some people use i think 7/8" heims with the 3/4 bolt... but the 5/8" bolt is plenty.

But just remember. If you go OTK, you will need bring the trackbar bracket OTK and build a new trackbar as well.

I used 3/4" heims with no misalignment spacers and a straight 3/4" bolt on my old 59 willys. seemed to work great for the drag link and tie rod. sleeved 1.5" .120 DOM with 1.75" DOM .120. stuff seemed so crazy strong. If you go UTK, consider sleeving it so you can just beat the living snot out of it and not think twice ....
