adjusting timing

Good old kastein measured his spare AW4 and got a radius of 6.5" from the center of the shaft to the CKS mounting surface. That works out to a circumference of 40.84", which divided by 360 gives .113" for every one degree of rotation. That's less than 1/8th inch of movement, and less than 1/2" for 4 degrees advance. It might be possible to cut the slot a little bit and get there.

I'm pretty sure I got a half inch either direction on my slotted bracket. The valv seems right because I had 9 degrees to start and about 14 after it was pinned all the way. Ill have to measure after I get home. Thanks for posting that info!

yeah... sorry it took me a month to measure that one damn number :looney: usually remembered on my way out the door to work (no ruler) and on my way back in after work (dark.)

EDIT: yeah, should work for RENIX, afaik the CPS is mounted the same distance from the torque converter + flexplate centerline on all AW-4/4.0L combos so it should work on any of them if you can make the sensor slide properly. Just make sure you maintain the same depth or the signal from the sensor could be weak (too far away) or the sensor could be ground against the flexplate (too close.)

Does anybody know where to find one of those high altitude crank sensors? I did a brief search online and came up empty handed, they all say "Excluding high altitude".

I did not read every post but will this work for the RENIX CPS? If so, i want one!!

this is twice as easy for a renix! they sell an advanced crank sensor....autozone has or can get it....look it up for an 87 xj 4.0 auto with high altitude package

i have them in all my jeeps :)

Did this part ever get produced? Wouldn't mind picking one up for my '93.

didnt see if it would help with a 96+ obd2.
i'd like to get my high rpm pinging out. i run 93 octain and still get a lil sparkknock.

This might be lost in this older thread but does anyone know if there is a timing advance table for the 4.0 out there somewhere? I'm running mega squirt on my '95 so timing is completely adjustable. In our latest tuning runs we added a lot of timing advance to the table but we have NO CLUE where we are suppose to be. I mean one way is to keep advancing it until pinging but that is the dumb way. I'm hoping to find a factory timing advance table to work from then extrapolate how much further we can go with 93 octane.

Thanks

I would like one of those to I can slot the bracket but yours looks like it ajust more ploblem with slotting a bracket you run out of bolt before long you can only move it about 1 full bolt hole and that chancing it . let me know if you start selling them any where I need one
