Hello everyone!
I have been an automotive enthusiast (AKA car nut) for years, but I just purchased my first Jeep this past weekend. I have been interested in them for quite a while but for some reason or other I never got one.
Until now, all my mild off roading, was done in a jacked up 89 Crown Vic station wagon, lovingly dubbed "The Hillbilly SUV" Believe it or not, it has more ground clearance than the Cherokee, but is easier to get high centered due to the longer wheelbase. (Being 2 wheel drive doesn’t help much either, despite the traction loc rear)

Every vehicle made his it’s little quirks and things specific to it’s design that are handy to know, so I am asking for some people to point me in the right direction with my new toy.
I just got solid, 89 Cherokee 2 door with 138k on it. It has the 4.0/auto with the closed loop cooling system. The interior literally looks new, except for the headliner, which should be a relatively easy fix.
Here are the bugs I need to work out, in no particular order.
(Yes I know how to use the search function, and plan on using it regularly, but this is my first post so cut me some slack, ok?)
Cruise control, doesn’t work.
Drivers window grinds and has to be helped up if rolled all the way down.
Clicking/popping noise from the front end, when making a sharp turn in full time 4x4.
Mystery rattle coming from inside passenger side of the tailgate.
Minor oil leak coming from the valve cover.

Thanks, for having me.

Welcome to heep ownership as well as the forums.

What's worrying me is that leak from the valve cover. Check you're air filter for signs of blowby.

Thanks for the welcome!

I looked at the air filter box the other day and didn’t see any oil in it. I suspect the leak is coming from a sloppy looking gasket goop job on the valve cover and or a bad grommet on the valve cover, but I haven’t had time to investigate it yet.

Welcome!
You have an '89 with 138K? Wowza, that's good! I love 2 doors! You should post a pic. Good luck with your Jeep.
Thanks! The low mileage and clean carfax was the main reason that I finally took the jeep plunge. I have looked at dozens of these things with 250k + on them, for twice the price.
I haven’t gotten any pics of it yet, but I will post some when I get them.

LoL, ok, you asked for it.
Ladies and Gents, meet Herkimer, The Hillbilly SUV.
Just horsing around in Salt River.

I know, pretty lame by Jeep standards, but I don’t have any other off road pics of it. For some strange reason, my wife (aka photographer) doesn’t want to be seen in it. LOL!

Here are my "new" police push bars. They go right over top of the back bumper on my wife's taurus.

Too funny. Awesome! Yeah, carfax is certainly great. Always nice to get a good deal on a nice Jeep for cheap.

Thanks, again.

Most people are way to serious. I have had more fun out of that old wagon, than is probably legal. Right now, I have less than $700 in it grand total. To me, it is worth that just for beating around town on the weekend.

I do plan on modding the Jeep a bit, but I have to keep it wife friendly, so that means old "Herk", will be my wrenching toy for a while to come.
