A Humboldt-Cherokee Blog.

LOL

Tim- I remember when you let me drive your green POS (precision offroad system) and you said "I've always driven hotrods and gas guzzlers... The cherokee is my economy car!"

:) Oh, and just an FYI, my brother's '03 GLI 1.8T with a chip, intake, and exhaust gets just under 40mpg on the hwy and its pretty darn quick.

That's a hell of a chip. Stock is about 29mpg on the highway. My TDI is averaging 46.5 over 20K miles.

Tire prices went down on tire rack. I'd be happier with my bad mpg if I was at least running the tires I wanted.

I'll just buy 33's and be happy with my xj.

LOL I love all of this. This is why NAXJA rocks. I wouldn't keep coming back if I couldn't handle the criticism. :)

The whole thing about my lady situation- Thanks guys. I learned a lot. And I'm over it. haha
So no, crap econobox is not an option. A sedan isn't an option. (A wagon is) Sometimes I think the wj would just better fit my needs.

The xj isn't going anywhere for a while, if at all.

I still come back and i drive a TJ :eyes: Love NAXJA

Girls suck... literally and figuratively..

Have you thought about a lil ford ranger?

So that means EXO cage and tons right?

That's a hell of a chip. Stock is about 29mpg on the highway. My TDI is averaging 46.5 over 20K miles.

He is lowered quite a bit on coilovers as well which likely helps the aero. But I think it was 38-ish to Vegas, all highway and mostly flat. 36mpg on most other highway driving.

And to keep things on track - Sean, I'm surprised the XJ was struggling and getting 12 mpg with the drumset. Is it due for a tune-up or anything? Any idea what the total weight was? And are your springs worn out? 33's won't help in the mpg or power, but you might feel better about it. :)

Yeah, it sucked. It was probably because of the terrain, and I still had a clutch fan then.
The drums are probably 500 lbs. Sometimes it feels totally powerful, and sometimes I swear it has a 4cyl. (It feels like I use lots of throttle just to get going sometimes)

The 33's are actually lighter and skinnier than what I have now. It probably wont be a big difference. It revs too high on the freeway anyway. IMO. I'll be much happier with my rig if it had nice tires, because it's the one thing I've always skimped on due to cost.

My sister has a 2004 jetta automatic (the only reliable year for the auto) that she wants to get rid of. So my dad my buy it from her, and then my mom will have a DD, and I can use it to go on trips if I need to. (She can drive the wj)

If that happens, then I can use the wj or the vw, which would be a win win for everyone. My mom wants a small car, and I want a small car for occasional use.

I tach at 2500-2600ish at 65.

I want to slow it down because it seems to cruise best at 2300 or so. I'd get less driveline vibes too. (Vibes kick in at 65)

Forgot you have smaller tires. I tach @ 2500 @65 mph. I was able to pull almost 19 mpg on the way home the other weekend.

What MPG are you getting? Im too lazy to look back.

I went on a nice trip to Titlow hill/ Grouse Mountain yesterday.

Amazing scenery, and lots of fun dirt roads and snow.

I went with Mike, (The Manch on naxja). He drives a Mitsu, but it does really well!

Nice place. I have actually been looking at a Mistu like that since spending a little time on the ExpeditionPortal. Solid platform.

Yeah. It's nice.

Also, I ordered 33 inch km2's yesterday!

can't wait to watch you pop them at the entrance to deer valley like ed & josh. :roflmao:carry a spare!

Haha na man, they're load E, 10 ply, so it'll ride like sh** and I'll fit in with the diesel trucks!

:)

Got the km2's yesterday. Pics later!

Are you going to trim the wheel wells and move flares to make them fit?

Just wondering, as I've toyed around with moving up to 33's myself. But with living on the Humboldt coast, I don't like exposing metal to the elements here; so I'm hesitant about cutting up wheel wells. My KM 32's just barely clear with about 1/2" of space around the stock flare locations. That's with 5.5" of lift.

I guess for what I use my XJ for, I'll probably stay with 32's and leave well enough alone......

Post up pics once you've installed the 33's......

I've already trimmed the fenders as far as I could, while maintaining the factory flares.

The rear flare is relocated 1/2 an inch upward, the rear part of the wheel well is cut and folded.

I also have extended bumpstops front and rear.

No rubbing. (yet)

The ride is awesome, the power is good, and vibes are reduced on the freeway. Love em.
