I was at a boneyard today and spotted a 1994 XJ NP242 tcase. i have an 88 XJ w/ 231 tcase (AW-4) the 94 had an auto trans also.

will my splines match up with the 94 242 case? i think my 88 has 21 splines and i know at some point those splines got changed to 23 i believe. anyone know the details?

also, i got the rear DS from the 94. i assume that my current DS will be too long since the 242 is bigger. I am not sure what axle was in the 94, forgot to look, so that rear DS i picked up may not even fit my D35 if the 94 was a 8.25.

any suggestions and info is much appreciated!

I am sorry I have nothing contructive to add to your post......I am however curious as to where you find XJ's in the boneyard! I can never find them and if I do they are the cheapest stripped down version of the XJ that the the previous owner could find with nothing of benefit to me! I do find 8.8's pretty regular though explorer drivers must be a little shaky those rides always end up wrecked. LOL

Gettin better, every pick n pull around here consitently has at least 6 XJ's.

Also a good selection of fullsize cherokee/wagonners.

Guess it all depends where you are.

I saw one that at one point had some lift springs and shocks on it... But those were already taken by the time i saw it. :(
