That is very interesting... Wonder what the thermostat has to do with it? Not getting up to operating temp may not burn off condensation or something? I've had a few gunkers like that myself...make sure there's a thermostat in it when you get a chance-- I've seen a bunch of 4.0s all gunked up like that and the one thing common to all of them is a lack of thermostat.

I think you're right about that. I've even had an early 5 speed 4 cylinder that had leaked onto the bulkhead connector enough to cause severe corrosion and even led to an electrical fire (small, but a fire nonetheless). I ended up having to splice in a bulkhead connector to both sides of the firewall beforeThis seems common on the 5 speed ones I have messed with. My theory is the fluid from the MC eats the paint and undercoating off causing it to rust out.
