2005 Sierra Chapter event schedule

I'll lead the Swamp run again this year. I'll talk to Richard about dates since I know he'll want to go.
Also gotta up the vehicle requirements this year. ;)

One trail that I haven't done yet and would like to do is Dusy Ershim.

Sounds good, let's up the vehicle requirements. :laugh3:
I'd love to do Dusy Ershim, sounds like a nice long challenging trail, a 30 miles version of the Con.

Dusy sounds cool. I never been there before. How many nights camping for a nice run on it?

Chuck, thanks. I'll get back to you.

It's pretty much a 3 day gig. Drive up & camp at the trail head. Day 1, drive up Thompson grade & camp at Thompson Lake. Day 2, drive to Ershim Lake & camp. Day 3, drive the rest of the trail & head for home. It's a very cool trail, but also a long trail. It's 33 miles so basically 10 miles per day. Small groups go faster & large groups go slow. Be careful though, those woods tend to eat small children.

At least U are bringing the Expresso maker. :) I wish I would have able to camp out with U when U brought all your goodies. I'd like to get my PS2 next time too, my old 1 crapped out and I need to get a new 1, so why not the slim 1 with internet capabilities? So you're sticking with your 35's? Quite a jump from the 39's U had planned. I think the 35's will work out good. I'm going to try my 37's and if I break to often then I can put on my 35's again.

Anyways, lets definately get a trip to Dusy this year, I know it is long but unbelieve scenery and a nice challenging trail. Anyone doing Terra Del Sol 3/4-6? I hope to do it. Also maybe JV before it gets too warm. I know Crash, Jes, Goatman, etc are getting ready for the AZ trails, so hopefully U guys will feel like doing JV 1 more time in spring.

Big Red,

My own personal opinion about a JV run is that the guys who know that area best mostly do invite only runs. I've been there once, and I broke my junk. I really didn't like being the guy who held the run up either. Luckily it was something easy enough to fix within an hour. The trails out there are really tough, way tougher than I expected. Get some more seat time and run some more local trails before deciding you want to go to JV. And make sure your junk is tested before even thinking about running with the NAXJA crew.

If people are interested in hosting an open JV run, I'm sure they will volunteer. If not, please don't mention it in every one of your posts in this thread. Thanks

That's cool, thanks for being nice about it. :) I know I will need to test my rig out a bit after having all the mods I have going on right now. I did want to go with the stronger axles to be able to do the JV trails, though the Con and Fordyce are in my backyard just about and are very fun as well.
I guess I could run Terra Del Sol and some snow runs etc in the meantime, but I have the $ into my jeep to be able to do the hard stuff as well.

With Xj's having more creature comforts than a YJ or CJ, I guess with a good working radiator we could close our widows and put on the AC if we had to run these JV trails in the summer. :) I just got a 3 row radiator and it did awesome on the way down to leave my jeep with Ryan in Encinitas. I normally ran around 230 or so when I am in the 70-80 mph range and my rpms around 2.5K-3K, but now I was around 200-215 or so the whole way down there. I think I can actually use my ac again on hot days! :)

The only part that made your break un-fun was the lack of liquid refreshment. If we'd had more, I'd have stayed all night!

P.S. The run down the off-camber, loose and and sandy backside of the mountain, after dark, was not all that pleasant either.

You beat me to it.

February - snow run after midterms (?)
March - Pismo run,
April - Hollister,
May - Pismo II, posibly Lost Coast for Memorial weekend,
June/July - Can we get open runs posted on here for the Sierra rock trails?
July - Swamp Lake
August - Sierra-fest 05 (?)
September - Hollister (?)
October - 21st birthday keg party in Davis (?)
November - Thanksgiving snow run
December - Snow/Hollister (?)

Any other input? I'd like to see at least a couple open runs posted on here for the summer rock season, if people are welcome to join your group. I'm also considering a run to Gold Lake/Snake Lake area for 4th of July, and catch the Graeagle fireworks.

Now that we've had almost a week to think about the event calendar, can we start nailing down some dates or at least some months to do the runs in, if not specific dates? Phil's calendar is a good start in the right direction as is last month's schedule. I would like to get a JV going in the next few months and the Tierra Del Sol run 3/4-6. Crash, how did the huddle go??? :)

I'd also like to get a Johnson Valley trip going in the next few months before it gets too hot down there. While this is a Sierra Chapter run schedule, it would be nice to hook up with SoCal XJers for the Tierra Del Sol and JV runs.

Blablabla, how many times ya gotta post the same stuff?! You might as well just cut and paste.
Went to TDS last year, once was enough, plus the drive is like 10+ hours.
No open JV runs for me, I'll only run there with people I know.

I'll post up a date for Swamp in a couple of weeks after BOTW.

Hey Big Red. Just a little bit of info here. JV is open year round. Please just go there yourself and stop asking the rest of us to join you.

You guys took it easy on me. Actually the part that had me the most screwed up was the last waterfall climb. :scared:

The funniest part was how a particular someone rode my ass big time for breaking after he just got done being broke down for over 3 hours. That's why all the refreshment was gone. All I could do was sit there and take it. I could feel the love. Great trip. :kissyou:

Sorry for the repeated posts about JV. I've never been there and would only go in a group. I know JV is open year round, but it gets really hot there so that's why I wanted to get a group going there in the next few months before it turns into an oven in the day. How about the other runs? Do people want to do an official Fordyce/Con trip this summer along with the other trails we did last year?

I think you are missing the true nature of this thread. Instead of just posting how much of a hard-on you have for JV, why don't you volunteer to host and organize a run somewhere. Don't just sit there and see what everyone can do for you. Try doing something for the club for once.

I was just posting to get an answer, you're the 1st person to call me on it. :laugh3: I was planning on TDS because I have to go to San Diego anyways to pick up my jeep and it would be a good run to see how my jeep does with the new axles. Everyone was a newbie at 1 time or another both 4 wheeling and on a particular trail. A trail repair can strike anyone, just some more than others without the proper gear.

I hear U, I know we all have to be givers and not takers. I would love to host a run and volunteer but U keep shooting my posts down. I want to be a productive member of this chapter not the instigator many people think I am.

I have never run the JV trails and just ran the Con/Fordyce this summer. Since I have as much $ as I do into my rig, I need to justify it by running the hard trails. Otherwise I would have left it alone and just keep running the local stuff, not to hard to complain about the Con and Fordyce, many people would love to be able to run these trails on a regular basis.

I can at this time only host the Bowman Lake/Malokoff Diggins trail near Nevada City as I have run it a few times and know it very well. It is just a snow run, so we'd have to do it pretty soon. Unfortunately I will not have my jeep back for another month or so. So at this point I could tenatively do that run mid to late March, hopefully there will still be some snow to make it a challenge.

I could also host some informal runs along the way and get stuff going for a run to the Con and Fordyce during the summer. I'm not trying to irritate by my reapeated posts, sorry I didn't realize how irritating I was till Jes pasted all my posts to his post, sorry. :gag:
